These couches do it all—some even charge your phones.
The beauty of buying a sectional for your living room or basement is that it can comfortably seat everyone in the family, as well as any guests who drop by to hang out. This couch style comes in all types of fabrics and arrangements, and one of our favorites is the reclining sectional. This is often the most coveted spot in the house because you can prop your feet up while you watch TV or do work, lean back to take a nap, and it is generally just super cozy. If you're thinking about buying a reclining sectional, there are a few things to keep in mind: do you have enough space for it, and what kind of arrangement and fabric options do you want?
Once you have the answer, it's time to start shopping. Luckily, reclining sectionals are available at all our favorite retailers, from West Elm and Pottery Barn to Wayfair. Most reclining sectionals cost at least $1,000+ (though we found one nice one for under that), since this is a large piece of furniture. You definitely want to spend your money on one that is well-built and comfortable because there's nothing worse than feeling sore all over after a reclining session. With this in mind, we spent hours researching and reading countless online reviews to find the reclining sectionals shoppers are loving right now. We picked only the most comfortable, stylish ones for your home below.

This West Elm find may be a splurge item on our list, but trust us: It's worth it. The cushions are filled with high-gauge sinuous springs, which offer support so you don't sink in too deep, and high-resiliency polyurethane foam, making this one of the more comfy options. If you're looking at this massive L-shape sectional and wondering how you'll manage to put it together, worry not. Complimentary white-glove delivery is included with your order.

What’s better than a cloud couch? A cloud couch that reclines. This is no ordinary recliner, though; it has three positions: seated, relaxed, and zero-gravity wellness mode, which, as you may guess, is the most fun of the three. (It basically reclined at a specific angle so that your weight is distributed evenly across your body, as opposed to around your midsection or upper half).
One reviewer even said, "After persuading my husband, we went for the two-seater recliner and he absolutely LOVES it. It’s such a treat to watch TV at night and be able to recline. We’re kind of amazed every time." We would even go so far as to say that the three positions aren’t even the best part of this sectional, though. It is a fact that you don’t need any extra inches of wall space to recline, so feel free to press this up against the wall and recline to your comfort level.

If you consider yourself creative, go ahead and design your own Grandin Road reclining sectional in any configuration that suits your fancy, using either of the two neutral twills. Otherwise, go with one of the brand’s pre-configured designs. Both options come complete with convenient, built-in USB-A and C charging ports, so there is truly no need to get up once you're seated.
"Our couch just got delivered, and my husband is already in love. We did the configure your own version, with one arm side on each end and two powered armless sections in the middle, all in the lighter linen color,” one reviewer said. “When not reclined, the couch pretty much just looks like a sectional. A big requirement for us was a recliner that didn’t really look like a recliner. This mostly fits the bill. The seat cushions are pretty firm but hoping they break in a bit with use. The back cushions are much cushier and are very comfortable.”

Not only does this super plush couch recline on both sides (it's filled with down), but the middle part features plenty of storage. There’s also a USB charging port on either end. Did we mention it comes in two sizes and two colors? If you’re looking for a new comfy couch on the cheap (and fast), this is a great find.
"Turned out to look even better in person than it did online. I love that I can remove the headrest to create a whole different look. I actually bought a loveseat and sofa and put them together (very easy to pop together), and liked it so much we bought the second loveseat. It’s very comfortable, but the cushions are on the firmer side, so you don't sink into it when sitting down." one reviewer said.

If you want something truly unique and personal, go with this West Elm pick—it offers unlimited customization options. You can pick the configuration, the number of power recliners, and the fabric. There are 75 options, so we think you'll be able to find the color and material that match your space perfectly.
Not to mention, once you've made all your selections, you can choose the shipping window and have it white-glove delivered right to your home. This isn't just stylish and convenient, though. It's really comfortable, thanks to the fiber-wrapped high-density polyurethane foam, polyester fiber, and duck feathers that fill all the cushions. We dare you not to fall asleep on this thing.

Who says leather has to look retro? The contemporary silhouette of this faux-leather sectional features a recliner so smooth it changes the definition of a sectional. "The white leather is very comfortable, and I love all the recliners," one five-star reviewer wrote. "The extra little features are also very nice with the charging station and the ability to plug in your phone as well to charge. Extremely happy with this, and it looks amazing in my living room."

Heather Goerzen, director of content and design at Havenly, typically recommends Pottery Barn recliners to clients looking for a more classic piece of furniture. "They skew a little more towards traditional, so if somebody is really wanting a roll arm or something to that effect, Pottery Barn is where I steer them." This Pottery Barn pick comes in 52 fabric options, optional storage, and you can choose where you want the chaise.

This sectional can comfortably sit up to five people, and if anyone needs a place to store their drinks and snacks, this one has cup holders and consoles. With a simple press of the button, you can recline the seats to your desired level of comfort, so operating this will be an ease!
One reviewer wrote, "This couch is awesome! It is soft and very comfortable! Will be a great place for my husband to sleep when he makes me mad! He might even tick me off on purpose to get to sleep on it! Be sure you measure correctly, I didn’t and it’s long side is on the wrong wall so we will have to flip where we hang the TV but I don’t care! I love this couch!"

Though we were happy to scour the internet for the best reclining sectionals out there, whenever possible, interior designer Betsy Helmuth highly recommends trying them out in person. "Even if you can return it, it's bulky and super cumbersome to do so," Helmuth says, alluding to those who just purchase the couch online without ever testing it.
It's even better if you can have multiple family members test the sectional out because people need different kinds of support. Whoever will be sitting on the sectional should get a say in the final purchase. Helmuth shares that when she was shopping for her sectional, she and her husband had different sentiments about the designs they tried. "All the decision-makers whose comfort you deeply care about should be sitting on these things and weighing in [with their opinions]," she advises.
Colors and Styling: Like any sectional sofa you'd purchase for your home, styling is crucial to ensuring it blends well with your space. Goerzen recommends layering with pillows in the corners or adding a decorative throw blanket. You can even experiment with the sectional's color, from a rust-orange tone to olive green or even trendy neutrals. "I would choose a colorway that's reflective of your style palette with the rest of your home," Goerzen says. "There are a lot of great options, from bolder [hues like dark green and navy] to more neutral [shades] to on-trend weaves."
Design and Fabric: When it comes to the sectional's fabric, look for sleek, tailored cushioning to minimize its bulky silhouette. "I typically advise folks to go for a softer fabric like chenille, maybe even something with a texture, over a leather," Goerzen says. "I think the leather can run that more dated aesthetic." It's still possible to have a sophisticated leather sectional in your home, however. Focus on the silhouette to keep the elegance. Don't neglect how the arms of the sectional look, either: slimmer ones are your friend. "Something about the roll arm combined with the reclining sectional feels heavier, kind of blockier at home, [whereas] the clean lines, I think, are what really elevate the look and feel [of a sectional]," Goerzen says.

Since reclining sectionals tend to be very large pieces of furniture, it's important to consider how they fit into your floor plan before you purchase one. Goerzen says a good starting point is to physically tape off the sectional's dimensions to see how much space it'll take up in your home. "As you're taping it off, I would consider what size coffee table you have," Goerzen says. "Where is the reclining portion relative to your coffee table or anything else in front of it? [You're] just making sure that you're not having something that's really finicky every time you look to recline." If you have to reorganize your living room every time you want to lounge, this defeats the purpose of relaxing.
As a rule of thumb, Goerzen says you'll want to have at least three feet of space in the walkway sections around your reclining sectional for optimal traffic flow. Between the reclining sectional and the coffee table, there should be about 18 inches of space. Make sure to measure the space behind your sectional, too. "A lot of people don't allot for space behind the sectional for the piece to actually recline," Helmuth adds. "They tend to be deeper than normal sofas, so you have to have the space to accommodate."

Keeping a reclining sectional clean can be as simple as using a lint roller to collect blankets and clothing fibers. For more messes that build up over time, though, Goerzen recommends using a Dyson vacuum with a detachable arm and a pill remover once a month. "They are truly the best thing to keep the sofa looking like it's brand new again," Goerzen says. "I probably use mine once a month just to quickly go over the pills and remove those. It never damages the sofa." Don't stress over spills and dust, though, because if you're going with a reclining sectional, that likely means this is the place to hang out with the pet and/or kids, so accidents will happen.

Reclining sectionals can make for an extra-cozy family movie night, so it makes sense that Goerzen typically weaves them into family rooms or basements during design. Helmuth says to be extra thoughtful when purchasing a power recliner, however. They typically require electricity, so a cord will need to be plugged in, which can make things tricky if you want your sectional in the middle of the room. "If you have a really large basement or a really large family room or TV room, and you don't have center outlets in the floor or if you don't have in-floor outlets, there's going to be wires that you're going to have to walk over," Helmuth cautions.
