93 Beautiful Landscaping Ideas That'll Boost Your Property Value—and Your Happiness

These expert tips will get your lawn looking its best.

By

After a cold, harsh winter, we've finally entered the blooming spring season. For many, this means more time spent outside and basking in the sun, which is a lot more enjoyable if you love your yard. Whether your outdoor space is large or small, having an alfresco area that's styled and designed to your liking can not only boost your happiness but also your property value. If you've just now realized that your exterior could use an upgrade, then you're in luck because we've curated a list of designer landscaping ideas to inspire you.

From a lush wildflower garden to a stylish pergola to an elegant walkway leading up to your front door, there are so many ways you can add more intention to your outdoor space and revive your property. The best landscaping ideas include every detail of your yard into the design, like your grass type and USDA Hardiness Zone, for better plant care.

It's also important to go into any outdoor changes with a general idea of what goals you want to accomplish. If you're trying to encourage bees to pollinate your garden, then sowing native plant seeds is a smart idea. If you want a natural spa-like escape, consider installing a water feature and a cabana that matches your aesthetic. If you'd like to entertain more often, an outdoor conversation pit and fire table on sleek pavers might be the way to go.

There are truly endless landscaping ideas out there, whether you want something more traditional, modern, or anything in between. Keep reading to find 93 designer landscaping ideas below that'll take your yard to the next level.

If you have the space (and the desire!), create your own sculpture garden to add more visual interest to your yard. It doesn't have to consist of large pieces—they can be smaller to suit your style.

Juxtapose the natural curves and wildness of nature by putting in landscaping elements that add sharp edges and linear details. In this yard, landscape designer Scott Zimmer of Zimmer Gardens installed a crisp metal edge between the lawn and keystone pathway, giving the yard a more professional and manicured look. However, it’s always functional, as the edging prevents grass from growing into the path, resulting in less maintenance needing to be done.

With bushes and flowers growing over the pathway, this garden creates an illusion of overgrowth and wildness, but it’s actually kept perfectly in check. Zimmer also used metal edging here, ensuring the garden bed wouldn’t grow into the pea gravel pathway while still giving the landscape a more laid-back, beautiful appearance.

If a rolling lawn isn't your desired backyard, think outside the box. For this home, Richardson & Associates Landscape Architecture worked to add BOTH a pickleball and tennis court to the sprawling acreage. For better joint comfort, the concrete courts were topped with Pro-Cushion. The green-painted surfaces help it blend in with the evergreen landscaping. Photometric testing was also used to ensure the court lights didn’t reach neighboring properties.
