High altitude gains some attitude when Los Angeles designer Matt O'Dorisio subverts mountain chalet clichés at a Lake Tahoe getaway.
The California vacation home's wooden exterior is trimmed with copper gutters.
In the great room, custom chairs are covered in Zimmer + Rohde's Lawford Stripe, and the curtains are in a Pindler linen.
The formal dining area mixes rusticity and refinement. The custom plank table is large enough to seat 14 guests. The Aesthetic dining chairs are covered in a hair-on-hide leather by Cortina, "which feels perfect in the mountains," O'Dorisio says.
A nook under the stairs was turned into a cozy games corner. Built-in banquettes have drawers for board games.
In the kitchen, industrial-style Shaw pendants by the Urban Electric Co. hang over a custom island with a Calacatta Gold marble top. The wall tile is from Waterworks.
Gold-lined black shades dress up an antler chandelier in the master bedroom.
In the boys' room, curtain-shaded bunks in Farrow & Ball's Calke Green are inspired by Pullman train cars.
The boys' bathroom has a large trough sink and a pendant from Schoolhouse Electric Supply & Co.
In the girl's room, custom rails and stairs make it easy to reach the top of Pottery Barn bunk beds. Linen curtains and pillows are in Tulu's Kezban.
O'Dorisio created an elevated outdoor patio paved in Connecticut bluestone. The seating area combines contemporary teak with more traditional wicker. "It's like an extension of the living room into the forest," he says.
A Relais sofa by Janus et Cie faces the outdoor fireplace, which helps warm the covered dining patio on cool days and evenings. A teak dining table by Barlow Tyrie is surrounded by Janus et Cie armchairs. The weathered-zinc pendants are from Restoration Hardware.
