Designer Shon Parker embraced old-world patina and luxe touches all at once in this Atlanta, Georgia, home.
The 1915 cottage has a storybook feel.
A narrow space greets guests.
He installed walnut paneling in the entry of the Atlanta home. A custom round mirror ("perfect for a last look on the way out the door," he says) hangs over an antique Spanish console. An African planter is filled with moss from Parker's farm in Lake Placid, New York.
With high ceiling beams, the space was practically begging Parker to dial up the drama.
Parker lightened the paint color and darkened and waxed the ceiling beams in the living room. The custom sofa is covered in a Duralee velvet; the tusk table and the ottoman, in a Larsen velvet, are both from Baker.

The green kitchen cabinetry needed to go.
Indeed, the cabinetry was ousted for a more classic Shaker style designed by Parker. Instead of the expected island, the designer chose a vintage breakfast table to add utility and sculptural appeal; his dog, Bailey, sits beside it. The range is by La Cornue, and the hood is by Vent-A-Hood.
Built-in shelves and a cast-iron fireplace wait to be refurbished.
An antique Venetian mirror echoes the curves of the Thibaut settee by Thomas Pheasant and round Baker table.
One of the client's favorite original details in the house is the room's Victorian mantelpiece. Parker embellished the small space — separated from the master bedroom with a curtain in a Kravet silk — by covering the walls in a Thibaut paper. He darkened the wood floors, which were previously light, and used a geometric wallpaper from Cole & Son between the ceiling beams.
