You can walk through a secret portal, just like "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

With her exquisite taste and eye for rich detail, pillow maker Rebecca Vizard transforms her rural Louisiana estate with funky French Quarter flair.

Lush fig ivy surrounds the entrance to designer Rebecca Vizard's lake house in Louisiana.

The entry, painted in a custom Benjamin Moore hue, is a breezeway connecting the main house to Vizard's studio. She added a vintage schoolhouse light, purchased at the Round Top antiques fair in Texas, to a Hunter ceiling fan.

"It's barn-like but comfortable," says Vizard of her living room, which she furnished with antiques and slipcovered seating, including a sofa in a Gretchen Bellinger stripe; the oyster-shell lamps behind the sofa are from Shaun Smith Home, the pillows and wine cork–laden chandelier are both from Vizard's company, B. Viz Design, and the rug is by Stark.

Wide cypress boards in the living room were painted a vibrant red, then distressed and softened with an ocher glaze. The artwork is by Vizard's family and friends, mixed in with pieces she purchased on her travels or from a favorite gallery, Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge. A monogrammed pillow by Vizard enlivens a leather armchair. A camel saddle — a family heirloom — doubles as a footstool.

Antique tapes, trims, ribbons and embroidered details abound in Vizard's workshop.

The master bedroom's coverlet and shams are in Libeco Belgian linen. Vizard made the pillow from a 19th-century Ottoman jacket.

An antique French bookcase was repurposed as the master bath entrance. The chairs belonged to Vizard's grandparents, and the curtains are made from a tablecloth found at a Paris flea market.

After staying in a tiny room at the Hotel Verneuil in Paris, Vizard was inspired to make the most of this diminutive guest room by flanking the bed with Visual Comfort sconces and cubbyholes for books and water (along with electrical outlets for charging devices). The headboard is upholstered in a vintage Kazakh suzani. Linens, Walker Valentine. The walls are painted in Benjamin Moore's Military Tan.

Of this lofty American Empire bed, Vizard jokes, "Guests are either dying to stay in it or terrified, depending on their athletic ability."

A post office in Seaside, Florida, gave Vizard an idea for the design of the garden shed. A fence around the vegetable garden is stained in Sherwin-Williams's Shade Tree.

The designer, her husband, Michael, and their dogs, Lucille (left) and Lou, pilot their 1972 Correct Craft through a grove of cypress trees in Lake Bruin, which borders their property.
