It's all part of the "vintage Everglades" theme.
After 35 years in Rhode Island, Sara Gilbane's parents make the move to Palm Beach, entrusting their designer daughter with creating a colorfully welcoming home that blends their New England heritage with a newfound Floridian whimsy.
Designer Sara Gilbane enlivened the dining room of her parents' house in Palm Beach with a "vintage Everglades" theme. Decorative artist Brian Leaver hand-painted palm trees and flamingos on a grass cloth from Meg Braff Designs. Table and chairs, Hickory Chair. Abaca rug, Stark. Antique Murano chandelier, 1stdibs.

An abstract painting by Simeon Braguin (left) complements the living room's color palette of sun-bleached blues and melons, lending the space what Gilbane calls "a Bahamas-meets-Palm Beach air." Armchair exteriors in Lee Jofa's Hisari Ikat, rattan club chairs in a custom blue-and-coral linen by Peter Fasano, walls sheathed in a Phillip Jeffries raffia, and a rug from Studio Four NYC add to the effect.
The blue theme continues in the living room, showing up in the pale hue of the custom club chair's Bennison fabric and the lively Vaughan print on the sides of the ottoman; the fireplace surround is covered in antique tile.
Visible from the living room, the kitchen had to be functional but also elegant — Gilbane covered the Palecek barstools in a shibori hand-dyed leather from Studio Four NYC; Ann Sacks's Moroccan tiles and a striped Dash & Albert runner add touches of blue to the space; cerused-oak cabinetry and ladder, Livingston Builders; range, Wolf.
The breakfast nook's comfortable seating includes a generous banquette upholstered is Champalimaud fabric and Chippendale chairs with cushions in a China Seas cotton.
In the family room, the exuberant ikat on the antique rope sofa from John Rosselli and on the roll-arm sofa is by China Seas. Armchairs, Palecek. Ottoman, Bunny Williams Home. Rug, Studio Four NYC.
In the powder room, the walls are covered in a tropical Clarence House wallpaper; the pecky cypress wainscoting was finished with a white epoxy resin, which fills in the wood's natural grooves and highlights its rough texture. Sconces, the Urban Electric Co.
Gilbane's kids love to stay in this guest bedroom, where four custom twin beds are topped with Matouk linens and quilts and shams by John Robshaw, who also designed the fabric for the Roman shades. The poufs and the Canvas Nursery palm tree are from designer Amanda Lindroth's Palm Beach shop.
In another guest bedroom, Gilbane's Gypsette wall-covering was produced in a bespoke color by Peter Fasano. Headboard and bedside table, Serena & Lily. Artichoke lamp, Stray Dog Designs.
Just beyond the pool, Gilbane created a shady outdoor living room with a canopied sofa and love seats by Century Furniture. The powder-coated coffee table is by McKinnon and Harris.
