Joanna Gaines is the undisputed queen of the “modern farmhouse” aesthetic. The former HGTV host has been documenting her latest renovation—a kitchen upgrade 15 years in the making—for her 13.6 million followers.
As a departure from the sawdust and wood siding that have ruled her recent content, Gaines took to Instagram to share a sweet throwback of her “forever home,” which she lovingly calls her “favorite fixer-upper of all time.”
The Fixer Upper star purchased the Crawford, Texas, home in 2012 with her husband, Chip. Clocking in at 1,700 square feet, renovations took over a year and a half to complete, even with the design-minded couple overseeing the work. Today, the 1895 farmhouse is an ode to rustic design, featuring white tongue-in-groove siding from baseboards to ceiling throughout the first floor, distressed exposed beams in the kitchen, muted brick herringbone flooring in the entryway, and, of course, the Gaines family farmhouse table.
Feeling sentimental, fans took to her comments to admire how far Gaines’s forever home has come. One wrote, “So much magic, then and now✨💛,” while another mused on the progress, writing, “I remember watching the show when you were fixing up the house. Now look at it. Beautiful 🌹.”
While we don’t have too many clues as to what the renovated kitchen might look like, if we had to guess, Gaines could be keeping the first floor’s neutral color scheme and all-around dedication to coziness.
