It’s hard to imagine that anyone would want to give a single guest a tour of their attic, much less 13.6 million of them.
Ever the gracious host, the Fixer Upper star shared a rare glimpse of her home’s attic with her Instagram followers, climbing over, ducking under, and unearthing objects in an impromptu walkthrough of the rarely seen room.
Despite her self-deprecating commentary on the space, fans felt that Gaines’s attic represents the gold standard: organized, bright, and notably lacking in the creepy-crawler department. It reads almost as an ode to cluttercore, a time capsule of her career and road to famed interior design. Over the course of the video, Gaines unearthed her attic hideaways, which included now-vintage Magnolia merchandise, cake stands that Gaines crafted herself from collected white serveware, which she sold in her early days running her Waco boutique, and the entire pink milk glass collection of her Hearth & Hand collection with Target. Those same pieces were available as part of an Easter line almost 10 years ago.
The space itself is painted a soft earthy green and houses more than just the designer’s retired lines. In her exploration of the space, Gaines showed off her dad’s old baseball mitt, a miscellaneous wig, a never-before-used glassware set that appeared on her 2003 wedding registry, and a medical boot.
“This is just in case,” Gaines said. “When you have five kids, you never know when you’re gonna need the boot. Not letting go of the boot.”
The one thing Gaines was embarrassed to share? A windowsill dotted with bug carcasses? But hey, nobody’s attic is perfect.
