From Jamie Foxx to Jennifer Lawrence, these stars have embraced multigenerational living.

For a smattering of celebrities, fame and fortune don’t always translate to solo living. Some folks with tight family bonds have chosen to live with their parents following their rise to stardom, even before the recent multigenerational living boom. From Billie Eilish to Jamie Foxx, these celebrities prove that living with your 'rents can be a blessing.
Billie Eilish may be a pop sensation, but her successful music career hasn’t altered her preference for living with family. “My relationship with my home has not changed, just like with my parents and my brother,” she told V Magazine in March 2022. “I think it’s a bit jarring for some people who grew up with me or haven’t seen me in a long time … [they] come over to see us and see that it’s exactly the same. It’s as if you walked in here and it’s 2003.”
On a 2023 episode of Conan O’Brien’s podcast, she revealed she had a moment when she thought she needed to be on her own. “But I like having my parents around,” she said. Find out more details about her living situation here.
For a few years, Michael B. Jordan lived with his parents in a Sherman Oaks, California, mansion he bought for them. In a 2018 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he said, “I love my parents, but we have a roommate relationship right now, which is interesting. You get home-cooked meals, but then you also have those random trips to the kitchen in the middle of the night, and just the random run-ins that just might be a little uncomfortable from time to time.”
Fast forward to January 2020, he revealed in another appearance on Ellen that he moved out and into his own place, roughly a 20-minute drive away. “I’m pretty sure they saged the entire house when I left,” he joked. “They lit incense and bleached it down and got rid of all of me.”
While Selena Gomez doesn’t live with her parents anymore, she recently had another set of family-related roomies. "I live with my grandparents, so we are always in the kitchen, always cooking, and we have leftovers,” Gomez said in a Food Network video circa 2023. According to ELLE, Gomez and her grandparents lived together in her Encino, California home.
Now that the Rare Beauty founder is engaged to Benny Blanco, it’s unclear where exactly she spends most of her time. We’re eager to see how her living situation evolves. Will she move into his house? Will her grandparents join them? Will Gomez and Blanco purchase a new house together? Only time will tell!
A few years ago, Jamie Foxx revealed his divorced parents were both living with him. During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Foxx explained his father was in jail for seven years due to the possession of a small amount of illegal substances. "I couldn't visit him in jail because I saw him as a king," he said in the January 2020 interview. "But I wrote to him to say, 'Things have gotten good for me and when you get out I will save your life,' and he has been living with me for 20 years now."
Foxx also reconnected with his mother, who ended up moving in with them after she took Foxx up on an offer to visit him over Christmas. “It’s a weirdly fun household,” Foxx said of the situation at the time.
A couple of months before Bradley Cooper’s father died of lung cancer in 2011, the actor moved in with his mom and dad. After his father’s passing, Cooper’s mother moved in with him. "My family is very close, and my dad dying was brutal for all of us," Cooper said in an interview with Details magazine. "It was a schism, and its aftershock has not stopped. And we need each other. So here we are. But don't get me wrong. It's not without complications. It's not like I live in a compound and she's in the guesthouse. No. She's in the next room. But here's the thing: She's a cool chick. We can hang, and she can roll with the punches. If that wasn't the case, there's no way."
Although Jennifer Lawrence was riding her Hunger Games fame at 22 years old, she kept living with her parents for a while. In November 2012, she told Elle: “$10 million dollars and I’m still living in my parents’ condo…I’ve always lived in a tiny rat-infested apartment in New York, or a little condo in L.A., or a normal house in Kentucky. I think it would be very bizarre to live in a big mansion by myself.”
While Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi didn’t live with her parents, she did live with her in-laws. While pregnant with her first child, she and her husband, Jionni LaValle, lived in LaValle’s parents' basement as the couple waited for work to be done on their own home. At the time, she compared the situation to living in a studio apartment because they had their alone time, but they also had help with the baby.
