Here at House Beautiful, we typically prefer to share only good news (think surprise sales) when it comes to home, design, and shopping, but alas, every now and then, we have to share less-than-stellar headlines. Today is one such day: JOANN, the one-stop-shop for all things crafting and DIY decorating, has filed for bankruptcy—and not for the first time. The first filing came in March of last year, which prompted the company to turn to private ownership, and sadly, the new owners just filed for bankruptcy again last month.
The design destination, which opened in 1943, is famous for its enormous collection of anything you'd need for sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, and decorating, so it should come as no surprise that interior designers are pretty broken up about the news. Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of the bankruptcy is the brand's need to close hundreds of stores across the country, which is prompting designers to rush to the location closest to their firms and snap up everything they may possibly need for future projects. So, we chatted with designers to find out what they're buying before the official closures. See their responses below.
