Over the years, Joanna Gaines has posted enough photos and videos of her home on Instagram that you can all but recreate her exact interior decor for your own space. We love her velvet accent chairs, Magnolia holiday decorations, and lush green houseplants (to name a few) that make her 1,700 square-foot Victorian home in Texas feel so serene and beautiful. And while not all of us own such a spacious property, or have a big budget to redecorate to Gaines's level, an easy way to copy her style is through her plants. A tiny pot of greenery, after all, is an inexpensive way to spruce up any space.
We did a little investigation into the houseplants Gaines owns, and the Fixer Upper star actually shared her favorite varieties thriving around her house in Instagram video. Her collection of greens include rare plants like the monstera lechleriana and more tropical options like the red Congo philodendron and peperomia hope. She even has a fiddle leaf fig, one of the trendiest (and most finicky) plants in home decor. In the video, she showed off nine plants, though we're sure she has plenty more scattered around her home—and in her new herbarium!

The Staghorn fern is named so thanks to its fronds that resemble antlers. This pet-friendly plant thrives in medium to bright indirect light and needs watering every one to two weeks, making it a perfect apartment plant. If you want a little greenery in the bathroom, consider placing a Staghorn fern there as it also likes the extra humidity.
We love lush green plants, but some spaces need a bolder color. Enter this tropical variety, where new leaves sprout out in a deep red, before unfurling into reddish-green glossy leaves. This plant grows upright and outward instead of climbing like other philodendrons, while helping to purify the air by filtering out impurities. We'll stick this one in the bedroom!
Within the monstera family, this particular variety is super rare, so if you want a plant that few people have, this is the option for you. They thrive in bright, indirect light so an east-facing window is the best, though you can place the plant behind curtains to filter out any direct light from south or west-facing windows. Water every seven to 10 days, depending on the soil conditions, and you'll soon be rewarded with leaves baring the classic monstera holes.
If you have a mischievous cat or dog who likes to get into the soil and play with the leaves, this is not the plant for you as it's toxic to pets. For non-pet parents, watch your plant baby's oval and arrow-shaped leaves mature into lobed leaves like the ones seen on a monstera. Note: Dragon's tail philodendron can grow up to three feet long!
As someone who also owns a rubber plant, I can attest to its generally low-maintenance nature and sturdiness. Since this plant is native to the rainforests of India and South America, they do like bright indirect light and ample humidity. With the proper care, they can grow up to six to eight feet tall.
The sweetheart hoya plant, also known as the Valentine plant, is famed for its succulent heart-shaped leaves. Like other hoya varieties, this plant is native to Southeast Asia and is a low-maintenance indoor option. It can get by with as little as one to two waterings a month and tolerates relatively low light, though we don't recommend sticking it somewhere completely shaded.
This non-toxic tropical plant thrives in bright indirect sunlight, so place it in a south or west-facing window. One important thing to note about the peperomia hope is that because it has smaller than average root systems, too much water can drown them, so make sure to not overwater it. With the right care, watch the vine and leaves trail down from a bookshelf or across your window.
The jungle boogie philodendron, or tiger tooth plant, features narrow green leaves with noticeable jagged serration on the edges. Give the leaves a pole to climb on to watch them grow upwards and onwards! Like most plants, this variety requires indirect light and needs watering every seven to 10 days, making it super easy to care for.
The ever-popular fiddle leaf fig needs no introduction. Despite its finicky nature—they're notoriously hard to care for—the beauty of it attracts both newbies and green thumbs alike.
