It's never too soon to start planning an exterior home refresh!
Changing a major exterior feature of your home might sound overwhelming—but there’s one significant update you can make in just an afternoon: painting your front door. To prove how impactful this relatively simple color swap can be, we asked interior designers to weigh in on the front door colors they predict will be trending in 2026.

As designers are gearing up to bring their clients' home transformations to life in 2026, these are the front door paint colors they say are worth considering for your own space. Anyone living in a classic cedar-shingle home like this one has full permission to have a little fun with their front door color. While a subtle neutral might blend too much into the weathered siding, a bold hue brings instant personality. Here, interior designer Ghislaine Viñas chose a striking shade of blue that stands out beautifully against the age-patinaed shingles.
“I’ve always said a front door is the opening act of a home, the teaser trailer before revealing the interior,” she explains. “Before anyone even steps inside, that door is already setting the tone, hinting at the personality within. When you cross the threshold of our client’s Southampton entryway, you’re greeted by a bright, light-blue rug and furnishings in the foyer—and that front door, painted in Jacaranda by Sherwin-Williams, is the perfect preview of what’s waiting inside."
Designer Debbie Mathews predicts there will be more doors covered in "deeply saturated colors, like ochre, red, and even shades of plum and purple" for a more whimsical display. "Now I see a desire to make more of a dramatic statement with their first impression," she says.
For this country estate, designer Jamie Drake chose a vivid shade of plum, Benjamin Moore's Plum Royale, to enliven the entry.
Mathews also says that shades of blue—and blue-ish green—are going to continue covering front doors in 2026. But the designer expects to see hues beyond just the basics. "Many clients are currently asking me to source these colors for their homes’ interiors and exteriors," she says. "These blues and greens are not your grandmother’s hues—they’re more playful shades of turquoise, slate, teal, olive, and sage."
At this home by designer Bella Mancini, the front door and screen door frame were painted in Benjamin Moore's Santa Clara. The turquoise nicely complements the cedar shake exterior and nearby hydrangeas.
"While it always depends on the exterior siding and other materials on the exterior of the home, I am seeing more and more of our clients opting for classic black doors, and I expect this to continue into 2026," says designer Steph Schlegelmilch. "Instead of painting front doors black, we stain them a warmer black finish to highlight the wood grain. Doing this instantly makes a home feel more welcoming and instills a timeless appeal."
Whether you opt for black paint or wood stain, this home by designer Annie Anderson and architect Nancy Ruzicka is a prime example of how black can be used to add bold contrast to a white exterior.
"With the popularity of cottage and traditional architectural elements on the rise, I expect to see more stained front doors in 2026," says designer Jaime Dupes of Copper Sky Design + Remodel. "I find warm wood tones welcoming, and the grain adds depth and character to the front of the home."
For this home, the wood front door with its large glass window brings the charm and allows natural light to flow in.
A trending hue doesn’t have to be bold and offbeat. In fact, we're seeing neutrals dominate color trends in a big way. Designer Jennifer Miller says that a crisp, matte white front door, like the one seen here, is having a moment like never before.
“By painting the door and the house in the same soft white, it lets the garden be the introduction: serene and understated before the interiors reveal their full expression,” she says. If your home is surrounded by impressive and lush landscaping, a white door is like the canvas, and the blooms are the paint.
