6 min readFor four years, I’d slept on the same cheap bed frame that I bought from Amazon when I first moved to the city, and it was on its last legs. It squeaked with every little movement, it wobbled when my spouse would turn over, and I had grown to hate the look of it. The gold metal frame no longer fit my aesthetic—I don’t know if it ever did or if it simply met my needs at the time I bought it. So when I saw Cozey was releasing a bed frame, one with built-in storage, no less, I jumped on the opportunity to test it.
Cozey specializes in modular furniture, and since I already have their Ciello Sofa, I knew what to expect from the bed: also modular, excellent packaging, high-quality materials, and plenty of customizations. And it’s safe to say my expectations were met. Keep reading for my in-depth review of Cozey’s Ara Bed, from the delivery and assembly to its performance.

Bottom line: One of the best things about Cozey products is how sturdy and well-made everything feels, and this bed frame is no different. It doesn’t squeak, it was easy to put together, and it gives my room that “adult” look.
Delivery and Assembly
I worked with the Cozey team to order this bed system before it was even released online, so it’s safe to say the delivery process took a while for me. However, it looks like if I were to order the bed right now with my exact specifications—full size, flax haven colorway, square bed frame and headboard with a regular seam, and storage drawers—it would arrive in about a week or so. Though there’s no option for white-glove delivery, the plus is that shipping is free.
When it came time for delivery, it all happened very quickly. I got an early morning text on June 30th that my bed was out for delivery, and about eight hours later, all 12 boxes were in the entrance of my apartment complex. My spouse carried most of the boxes up the five flights of stairs to our apartment by himself and did have to take a few breaks, so keep that in mind if you live in a walk-up like I do.
Once we got the boxes into our home, it was time to assemble. One thing I love about Cozey is just how well-packaged everything is, and this bed was no exception. Every box is labeled on the outside with words and numbers, and the pieces themselves are packaged so they don’t get beaten up during shipping.
I basically put together my Cozey couch by myself over the course of an afternoon, so I thought we’d easily be able to get this done in a few hours—I was very wrong. We started taking our old bed frame apart around 9:00 p.m., started building this new bed frame around 10:00 p.m., ended the night at midnight with the bed partially built, then finished the next day.
The directions come in a big booklet and are easy to follow, relying mostly on pictures and illustrations rather than words. It’s entirely possible to build the bed by hand with the Allen key they provided, but I’d recommend using an electric drill if you have access to one.
Between 9:00 p.m. and midnight, we built basically everything except three of the four storage drawers. It was all fairly easy, made even easier thanks to our electric drill, but it was just time-consuming, partially because the directions for the storage drawers weren’t in the booklet. I had to search for them online, and while I found them easily enough, it wasn’t ideal.
The hardest part was wrapping the headboard and footboard in the flax haven covering because it was obviously designed to be taut and there was no elastic give at all. Using extremely strong Velcro to stick the covering on, we had to match up the corners and edges perfectly so it didn’t look misshapen or out of place.
The next day, I built the remaining three storage drawers by myself (though I’d really recommend this as a two-person job to make it easier). Each drawer took me about 25 minutes to build, including wrapping each one in its cover too. All in all, building this bed frame took just over three hours.
Cozey Bed Specifications and Features
Modular furniture typically offers a lot of options when it comes to features, and this bed is no different. From color to size to storage opportunities, you can really customize it to be perfect for your space.
- The Cozey Ara Bed is built on a sturdy steel frame. It’s very solid and felt like it was made from high-quality materials, which I needed because I despise a squeaky bed frame. The headboard and panels are made from plywood.
- The covers are washable and interchangeable. It comes in seven different color options, so if you want a different hue or would simply like some flexibility, you can order different covers on the website for around $150 for a full-size bed with storage.
- It comes in three different sizes: full, queen, or king.
- You can mix and match different styles. The base of the bed frame comes in two shape options—round or square—and offers a storage customization, which adds four drawers to the frame. The headboard and footboard also come in different styles: rounded, pillow, square, or extended, with regular seam, French seam, or channel tufted options. You can also choose to have no headboard.
- Each drawer holds about 53 liters, according to the website. The exact measurements aren’t listed online where I could easily find them, but I measured my drawers, and they came out to be 25 inches wide, five inches deep, and 26 inches long.
- Shipping is always free, and they offer a 30-day risk-free trial. Within that time frame, they would accept the return for free, but you are in charge of keeping all the original boxes to ship it back in. More information can be found on their site.
- Cozey offers a five-year limited warranty on all of their products, so if you find your bed has any defective parts that weren’t caused by consumer damage or modifications, you should be covered.
Cozey Bed Performance Review
I’ve only had this bed frame for about a month, but I really love it so far. My old cheap bed frame used to creak and squeak, and it would drive me insane, so it’s nice to have something that’s actually well-made for once.
The cover I went with—the flax haven color, which is a performance fabric—feels really good too. I was worried with the interchangeability that it would be thin or not be measured well and would be baggy or too tight, but it’s perfectly snug and is made extremely well. The Velcro that sticks it to the actual bed is also very strong.
Another thing I was worried about was the storage drawers. Since I couldn’t find the measurements online, I prayed that all the stuff that was under my old bed would fit in these. Not everything did, unfortunately, but it forced my spouse and me to downsize, so I will actually take that as a win. We have two cats that love to get into tight spaces, and they thankfully haven’t been able to open the drawers by themselves, which was a concern of mine. All in all, I’m really happy with the Ara Bed so far.

The Final Verdict: Is It Worth Buying?
If you’re looking for a bed frame that doesn’t require your full commitment or you need one with storage, I’d definitely recommend Cozey’s Ara Bed. I really love that I’m able to switch out the cover if I so desire, and I appreciate how smoothly the storage drawers roll on their wheels. The only annoying part was building it, but isn’t that the case with all furniture bought online? I think for the multiple customization options and the quality, this bed is totally worth it.
