It’s a blessing and a curse, as a design editor, to have expensive taste. We can visualize our dream homes, style the perfect bookcase or nightstand, and imagine all the custom upholstery that would make our home shine. But that pesky budget can get in the way. We deserve affordable upgrades too, without sacrificing great taste. So we tapped a few of our favorite designers to show us the way.

Over a dozen designers revealed their “shopping carts” filled with their favorite decor piecesunder $25. So you can get a look that’s approved by the pros, for less than your takeout would cost. These are the vases they use regularly with clients, and the cordless lamps they place in their own homes. After all, it’s the little touches that really make a space feel collected.

It’s not all bargain bin finds, either. There’s a brass candle snuffer and a marble toothbrush holder that look like they cost double their actual sticker price. So scroll on for decor that elevates every corner of your home, from your bathroom trash can to your child’s playroom.

“Any small piece of art—homemade, photograph, secondhand original piece—can feel elevated on a simple metal easel. I like these iron ones from Amazon. I recently put these in children's bookshelves with small framed needlepoints of dogs I found at a local antiques shop, and they look adorable. They look great on a countertop too!”

“One of my favorite affordable finds are these whimsical, touch-activated kids nightlights that I source on Amazon for children's spaces. They come in fun and unexpected animals such as a capybara and axolotls and emit a soft, adjustable glow that feels soft rather than harsh. I love that they are cord-free and USB-rechargeable, making them perfect for a bedside table or the inside of a fort. It's a small detail that adds personality, charm and function without stretching the budget.”

“There’s something inherently nostalgic about a candle snuffer; it evokes candlelit dinners and slower, more intimate moments at home. I love this antique-finished version from Zara Home for its refined, vintage feel. It’s the perfect finishing touch for a newly completed dining room and also makes a thoughtful host gift. I’m always drawn to accessories that are not only beautiful, but also practical and affordable. This one effortlessly adds character and intention to a space.”

“This little framed horse is one of my favorite styling secrets for kitchens. I’ll prop it on a countertop to hide an unsightly outlet and break up bare counters. It instantly softens all those hard finishes and adds personality. It feels collected rather than decorated, and at this price point, it’s an easy yes.”

Peggy Haddad, owner of Peggy Haddad Interiors

“In my opinion, no space is complete without greenery, but sometimes real plants are not an option. In that case, I reach for convincing faux alternatives, like this trailing plant from Target. It instantly adds a bit of effortless drape to a mantle or shelving, and makes a space feel more layered and relaxed. Even in high-end projects, it’s often these small styling details that quietly bring a room together — and this one does it beautifully for under $25.”

“This neutral trash can works almost anywhere. It looks way more expensive than it is, and the fact that it has a lid to hide unsightly garbage is an extra bonus. I use this as a go-to in bathrooms, and it has a practical plastic liner that can be wiped down as well.”

Jessica Hobson, founder of Jessica Hobson Design

“I layer this door mat over a larger patterned rug at the front or back door in almost every project, and I have it in my own home, too. It protects the prettier rug underneath, holds up beautifully to real life, and the natural texture adds that relaxed, organic layer I’m always after. It’s practical, but it never feels boring.”

“This white marble shallow bowl is a classic decor piece that looks like a high-end designer accessory. I love to use it on an entry table for keys, on a stack of books on a coffee table, or as a jewelry catchall next to your bed.”

“You honestly can’t have too many coffee table books, and this one just makes people smile. It’s playful but not cheesy, and it stacks in so easily, especially in family rooms where you want things to feel relaxed and personal.”

“Since wallpaper can be expensive, think about adding a throw pillow in your favorite floral print to the bed or sofa instead. Throw pillows are a simple, quick way to add nature-inspired prints that bring joy. I love the Laura Ashley Mila Blue Throw Pillow. The embroidered floral motif reminds me of Hawaiian quilts without the price tag.”

“Stone doesn't just have to be a huge statement piece. Try switching out your bathroom accessories. It's time to throw out your plastic toothbrush holder. The simple and sophisticated design of the Cork & Mill Marble Toothbrush Cup Holder will instantly elevate your bathroom aesthetic while also being practical.”

“One of my favorite home decor finds under $25 has to be the this wavy picture frame—it’s the perfect mix of playful and elevated. The sculptural wavy edge instantly makes even the simplest print feel curated and designer, while the black finish keeps it timeless and versatile. It’s proof that you don’t need to spend a lot to get that high-end, intentional look on your walls or shelves!”

“I LOVE this trinket under $25 because it's whimsical, cute, and really chic! The little fish detail makes it irresistibly cute. The hand-painted stoneware and playful shape give it that boutique, collected feel, like something you’d find on a coastal vintage shelf, but at an accessible price point.”

“It’s a nice and subtle custom home decor piece, especially if your home is already decorated with natural or wooden tones. You can upload any photo of your choice and have it printed directly onto a metal print with a wooden stand. It works great for filling small spaces with a personal touch, such as on hanging shelves or small corners of your home.”

“This vase is one of my favorites under $25, because it looks far more elevated than its price point. The terracotta finish and graphic shape give it that sculptural, boutique feel—the kind of piece that instantly makes a shelf, coffee table, or console look styled and intentional even with just a few florals (or even empty)!
