Small homes demand smart, space-saving solutions, while renters need furniture that's just as easy to move as it is to live with. Ikea's new limited-edition Kompishäng collection has been designed with both in mind.
The 12-piece range features affordable furniture and storage made for small homes, renters and frequent movers. Every piece can be assembled without tools, is easy to transport and is designed to maximise space without compromising on style.
At the heart of the collection is a versatile solid pine desk that assembles in just two clicks – no tools required. Lightweight and flat-packed with a built-in handle, it's designed to be moved effortlessly from room to room, or home to home. A smaller, round side table, ideal beside a bed, sofa or armchair, follows the same principle, while the wardrobe hanger that turns into a backpack offers a fuss-free way to transport clothes.
The collection is packed with clever space-saving ideas, including stackable pine stools, which can be either neatly stored away when stacked or, when slotted together, form a sculptural tower that doubles as shelving. Meanwhile, over-door storage, hanging wardrobe organisers and portable storage solutions help maximise space without the need for permanent fixtures.
The pine mirror features integrated hooks for storing clothes and bags as well as slots for displaying photos or postcards, while the portable plant carrier makes transporting your favourite houseplants a walk in the park.
'We wanted to create a collection that could be moved with your body alone. Without needing a car,' says Wiebke Braasch, designer of the hanging storage and plant pot. 'Moving plants was a bigger problem than I ever imagined, and it was fun to come up with a new solution that makes it easier to both carry and protect them while moving.'

But portability isn't the collection's only priority. Ikea also wanted every piece to feel like a considered addition to the home, rather than a quick purchase made purely out of necessity.
'Even if you move often, you don’t want your home to feel temporary. We saw how carefully people chose the things they carried with them from place to place, and that insight shaped the collection,' says Dora Ding, product developer at Ikea. 'We wanted the collection to be portable but still have a permanent look, people should feel settled and considered.'
Shaped by how real people really live in cities, Ikea visited the central London homes of young adults aged 20 to 28 to better understand their needs – and clear patterns emerged. Many spaces featured improvised storage, worn moving boxes repurposed as furniture and a carefully curated collection of personal objects carried from one rental to the next.
'We set out to create something that feels like it belongs in your home, not pieces that remind you you’re about to leave,' says Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom, Ikea's range leader. 'Balancing permanence and portability became a guiding principle across the entire collection.'
The limited-edition Kompishäng collection will be available online and in-store from 1st August 2026, while stock lasts.
