Girls' bedroom design ideas that covers toddlers and teens and all the ages in between!

Creating the perfect girls' bedroom can be a minefield so we've come up with a myriad design ideas that covers both toddlers and teens and all the ages in between.
For little girls' bedrooms, cute prints and playful bold colours are great ways to get creative, but bear in mind that as children grow their room needs to grow with them, so flexible furnishings are key.
When it comes to tweens and teenagers, girls' bedrooms can become even trickier to decorate – minds can be changed at the drop of a hat and colour schemes that were liked a few months ago can be suddenly deemed as 'not cool'. The key here is to create a room that can be changed quickly, and white works well as that blank canvas. There are other tricks too, like only papering one wall instead of all four, and if you're on a budget, simply updating bedding or cushions can work wonders.

We love how wallpaper has been used to create a design feature in this shelving. It really adds a decorative touch when you peek through the doorway and the pretty colours make it easy to accessorise the rest of the room. The combination of stripes and checks works really well too for a girls' bedroom, and adding a tactile element like the sheepskin rug is a great idea for young children as touch is so important.

Another fabulous colour to consider for a girl's bedroom is sunshine yellow. It's bright and cheery and looks great with white. And, it can work well for boys too. Follow the colour through into the bedding – a cushion and a throw in a similar shade works wonders for a cohesive look.

The fun thing about designing a girl's bedroom is that with the base colour of pink, you can mix and match different patterns to achieve a cosy look. Florals, spots and graphic prints all work well together as long as you have the common link of one colour. The apple green looks great too with this pastel pink, so consider introducing it as a pretty option.

Shutters are a great way to add a burst of colour to an otherwise neutral scheme, or to add a punchier look to an existing group of colours. They're great for privacy and you can adjust the amount of light that comes through. It also works well during the warmer months to add shade and keep the bedroom cool. For a girl's bedroom, use colours in similar tones as shown here to keep the room vibrant.

The beauty of an all-white girls' bedroom scheme is that it's essentially a blank canvas that can be changed up as and when. Bedding and accessories add the colour and pattern and look out for ways to make the space more individual. We love these plywood panels that can be used to hang things off; it's genius and it could be painted too if you want to add more colour.

Rainbows are a big hit right now when it comes to little girls' bedrooms and it's easy to see why – they're full of vibrant colours and hope. But we also love this version too with a more subtle colour palette. The rainbow on the wall is a fabulous idea. You could create this with a roller and three to four colours.

There's a point where pink won't really cut it, then it's time to ramp up the colours a tad and choose a punchier palette. Although there is black and scarlet in this room, which could be heavy on the eye, it works really well due to the white ceiling and woodwork. Balance is key with a girls' bedroom idea like this – the deep pink and white bedding soften the overall look perfectly while the zig-zag rug adds a modern element.

When kids get older, they get more fussy they want a grown up look that's still 'cool' and using a pop of colour like bright pink can be the little bit extra that will tick their trendy needs. You could create this pink stripe with paint or washi tape. The advantage of washi tape is that it's easy to remove if they get bored of it a few weeks later – or easy to add more if they love it! Pull the accent colour through into cushions and trinkets.

Loft extensions make great bedrooms for those who are slightly older – at the top of the house there's a feeling of independence and being slightly away from the parents! Loft bedrooms can be dark though, so opting for white walls and floors can be a great idea, then, what light does come through can be bounced about by the white. Place the bed in the most prominent position and use the lower sides for storage. Add in some pattern with checks, spots and florals and choose a blind to match.

Using paint as a decorative element is a really fun way to make walls look individual. For this girls' bedroom idea, use a circle template to make the gold dots after you've painted the wall pink. And don't forget you can paint furniture too – this elegant side table is painted black with a gold drawer to match the walls. Then add in a gold pendant and some dusky pink bedding to accessorise.

With home schooling coming to the fore during the pandemic, finding a suitable desk space to do school and homework has become ever so important. While the bed is against the white wall, the room is zoned to create a separate area workspace. A pink and white colour scheme with a yellow semicircle brings personality to this girls bedroom.

These days you can have loads of fun with paint as anything goes – literally! Painting the ceiling, painting the floor, stripes, spots, checks...the world really is your oyster. For this girls' bedroom idea we love the choice of three colours here. Royal Blue adds depth and doesn't take over due to the white, and that pretty pink on the window is an on-trend look right now. Who needs to paint their woodwork white? Not us!

Pale green is a fabulous option if you want to introduce an alternative colour in a girls' bedroom. It's easy on the eye, fresh and relaxing, and works really well with pale grey and white. You can add prints to the mix that feature leaves, trees and flowers to really bring the outside in. Green is also known for its calming properties.

As kids tend to change their minds quickly, it can be worth only wallpapering one wall (to create a feature wall) rather than all four. This can be a bonus as it means it can become the focal point of the whole scheme. Our top tip: Choose a design that's fun and has a bit of longevity. This design ticks all of those boxes and adds some fab colour, too. The three colours make it easy to accessorise with and pale blond wood looks a treat with it.

From fairy lights to neon signs, often it's the finishing touches that can have the most transformative effect in a bedroom. With sugary pink walls and grey curtains, it's the lights that bring some character to this bedroom space.

The modern rustic trend has been around for a few years now and shows no sign of abating. As seen here, it works really well for a girls' bedroom idea. It's all about creating a characterful feel – the panelling on the walls, reclaimed wood-style bed, and the upturned crate used as a bedside table. Add in vintage finds like old paintings and kids' chairs from car boot sales. A lick of paint will work wonders and will add colour to the scheme.

Create a bold and playful girls' bedroom with a combination of sunny yellow on one wall and alternately striped block colours on the adjoining wall using pink, orange and pale green. Finish the look by painting the ceiling in pink.

A really easy way to transform bland walls is with red heart stickers, or similar. It's a great way to create an instant feature wall. These stickers can be positioned and repositioned many times, without leaving any residue behind on wall surfaces.

Sometimes a fluffy high pile carpet isn't always the most practical option with little kids. For a girls' bedroom idea, have a look at vinyl instead – it's warm underfoot, feels cushioned and it's super practical; for starters it can deal with spills and felt tips that have gone astray. You can hoover or sweep it too and it gives a firm surface to play on. Colour choices are usually pretty large and often there are patterns to choose from.

Designing your daughter's room is about creating a cosy place for her to relax in, but as she gets older, also somewhere for her to do her homework – boo! That's why it's good to create zoned areas like the desk by the window, the cosy corner for the bed, and the bookshelves in the alcove.
