From Adrien Brody’s triumphant win to Conan O’Brien’s hosting antics, the Oscars were all abuzz this morning. Although we love all the glitz and glamour of the event, we had our eyes set on one particular prize.
Wicked, Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the stage musical, was awarded Best Production Design. The man behind it all, production designer Nathan Crowley, had previously worked on Interstellar, Westworld and The Dark Knight, but he told AD that the sets he created for Wicked were the 'biggest' of his career.
The sets of Wicked were brought to life by infusing a mix of Americana, Art Nouveau and Italianate design styles, all while embracing nature and celebrating colour (you can't miss the captivating pink and green combination). It’s a tribute to an American fairy-tale: full of heart, nostalgia – and, of course, fun.
But what if you want to bring a bit of that Oscar magic back into your home?
Here are a few pieces to help you get that award-winning Wicked look...
It was one of the film's most powerful opening shots. When it came to constructing the colourful world of Munchkinland, nine million tulips were planted in the British countryside. We think these paper hanging tulips from M&S are a wonderful way to bring the joy and colour of Wicked into your home.
Fiyero’s ‘Dancing Through Life’ number sees Jonathan Bailey spectacularly dancing across rotating bookshelves. His character turns the tradition and seriousness of the Shiz library into a madcap, joyous affair. Why not do the same with your bookshelves? Crowley gave the library’s bookshelves circular shapes with diagonal staircases. This was so that at certain angles, you could see the word 'OZ' repeated throughout the library. We think these shelves from Wayfair are a perfect nod to the film.

It wouldn’t be Wicked without introducing a touch of Glinda girlishness into your home. Whether you’re perfecting those hair flips or giving your friends a makeover, this pink vanity mirror is sure to make you 'popular' with the witch of the North.
If you’re anything like Elphaba, you might be a bit more focused on your studies. This sleek desk from La Redoute incorporates many of the design motifs from the sets. With its brass legs, green top and vintage style, the desk is a playful nod to the film’s misunderstood protagonist and an elegant allusion to the old Hollywood glamour of its sets.
With its sinuous shapes and nature-inspired motifs, it’s not hard to see the influence of Art Nouveau in the Wicked sets. On her bedside table, Glinda has a beautiful glass flower lamp. Why not invest in something similar with this stained-glass Tiffany lamp?
Just as Elphaba and Glinda overcome their differences, let pinks and greens come together in your home. A great way to do this is through some decorative wall art. Personally, we’re holding space for these quote posters on Esty.
