Rust-Oleum has launched its new Kitchen Cupboard Paint, which is available in 110 colourful shades and is touch dry in just an hour.

Need to update a tired-looking kitchen? One of the easiest and cheapest ways to do this is by painting your cupboards. The idea of 'the painted kitchen' is a key kitchen trend this year. 'Whether your tastes change or you notice signs of wear and tear, a well-built, hand-painted kitchen can simply be sanded down and re-painted in a new colour of choice. This is a great way of renovating your kitchen without the expense of replacing whole units,' explains Charlie Smallbone, founder of Ledbury Studio.

Described as a premium chalky blend and 'a pure treat for cupboard doors', Rust-Oleum's Kitchen Cupboard Paint is an ultra-flat matt paint with a soft to touch, yet hard-wearing finish – it can handle regular wipe-downs of splashes and splatters.

No primer or topcoat is needed for wooden or melamine cupboards (although prime surfaces where stain bleed may be an issue, including knots). You can also paint glossy cupboards – simply sand them down first with a fine grit sandpaper.

With 110 shades on offer, you can buy tester sachets (from 99p) containing enough paint to generously cover 30 x 30cm, to help you decide on the perfect hue.

Take a look at some shades below – you can shop the full range at Very.co.uk.

How to paint your kitchen using Rust-Oleum's Kitchen Cupboard Paint

Rust-Oleum

• Before you start painting, clean all surfaces using a degreasing detergent.

• Cover any tricky edges or anything you do not wish to paint. Masking tape will allow you to create a clean, crisp edge to the painted surface. Cover worktops, appliances and the floor with a sheet to catch any drips, and remove cupboard and drawer handles and set them to one side.

• Stir the Kitchen Cupboard Paint thoroughly before use.

• Use a brush to paint any hard to reach areas, followed by a short nap roller to coat the remainder.
