This military armchair definitely wouldn't look out of place in the White House's famous Oval Office.
This antique piece, restored and updated by designer and manufacturer RhubarbLondon, is described as a 'delightfully quirky' one-off, functional piece of art. The wide-seated armchair, available to purchase for £4490, has been reupholstered in a rare U.S army parade uniform that almost looks too grand to sit on.
The uniformed chair comes complete with silver-thread eagle crests, gilded and plaited shoulder boards, and authentic gilded army buttons. The uniform's accompanying navy blue trousers cover the chair's seat. Quirkier features include single-breasted lapels on the back, a silk waist sash, bow tie and button links.
The military chair is a new design for RhubarbLondon, who are famed for these quirky yet characterful seats.
The creative force behind RhubarbLondon is Shaun Brownell, who has been designing these bespoke pieces since 2013.
With upcycling being a key component of his work, RhubarbLondon's portfolio includes a WW2 Royal Air Force Overcoat chair with a vintage Union Jack neck roll; a Country Tweed library armchair using the original 1950s Dunn & Co Crombie overcoat; and a Buckingham Palace armchair with an original vintage uniform once worn by a member of the Queen's Royal Household.
