Swapping toxic cleaning products for eco-friendly alternatives can not only reduce toxins and prevent further damage to the environment, but it's a great way to save some extra money, too.
New research conducted by Tombola discovered that the average yearly spend on cleaning products is £130 — a whopping £8,450 over our lifetime. With more of us doing what we can to make our homes sustainable, making your own all-natural cleaning solutions can save £81 a year.
From cleaning your makeup brushes with baby shampoo to using lemon juice and salt to clean brass, these simple eco swaps will kick grime to the curb and keep your wallet happy.
'When making the move to cleaning your home with eco-friendly cleaning products, you may be left feeling slightly overwhelmed, but my top tip here would be to look at the common factors in these recipes – the ingredients,' advises Emma Reed, a natural cleaning blogger.
'The key ingredients are usually just the same handful over and over again with white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, castile soap, citric acid and cooled boiled water as well as essential oils being the most popular. When you realise this, it will begin to make everything feel far simpler. Source these ingredients and you will be able to make almost any household cleaner that you require.'
