The countdown is on to the unveiling of this year's Christmas tree at Claridges. Known for pushing the boundaries creatively, the Claridge's Christmas Tree has long been a seasonal landmark and symbolised the start of the festive season in the capital.
This is the 7th year that Claridge's has invited a guest to reinterpret the tree in their own distinctive style. 2009 was the first time that Claridge's Christmas tree was to be designed by a famed fashion designer, in this case, John Galliano for Dior. This striking tree came complete with snow leopards, dragon flies and parrots.
John Galliano returned for a second year to reveal his 'Under the Sea' creation in Claridge's art deco lobby. Bringing the theme to life, this tree was made of sparkling silver leaves, pink coral, sea horses, fish, starfish and jellyfish.
Alber Elbaz for Lanvin took over the reigns in 2011, creating a beautiful and colourful tree. But of course, it didn't come without his signature marionettes and a silk figurine of himself with trademark glasses and bowtie as the tree topper.
Kally Ellis of McQueens designed 2012's tree with the theme 'Forest Murmurs'. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, this tree featured magnolia branches and lichen moss, studded with crystal and emerald jewel eggs in white, gold and silver.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were the designers behind 2013's seven metre-high Christmas tree. This creation drew on the Italian heritage of the two designers with more than 450 Italian festive glass baubles blown by master artisans and bespoke multi-coloured 'luminarie' framework.
Dolce & Gabanna were in charge for a second year, this time inspired by their childhood memories. To celebrate children of the world, the eight metre-high tree was adorned with glass baubles hand-painted with international flags.
2015 was the first year that British designers took over the reigns of the Christmas tree. Christopher Bailey for Burberry was in charge of the creation, which was a celebration of British heritage, and featured over 100 umbrellas with motion-sensor lights programmed to sparkle as guests walked by.
