This design trend is not for scaredy cats. Architects and brave homeowners alike are taking advantage of incredible mountain views by constructing houses and restaurants on the side of a cliff. Prepare to fall head over heels for these jaw-dropping pads.
Earlier this year, a young couple commissioned GilBartolomé Architects to build this futuristic-looking pad, which they've nicknamed 'The House on the Cliff.' Perched on a 42-degree incline, the two-storey home in Granada, Spain, boasts a swimming pool, terraced living room, several balconies, and an auditorium that can host up to 70 people.
This conceptual design lets it all hang out – literally. Inspired by the way barnacles cling to the hull of a ship, Australian architecture firm Modscape designed a modern home that could hang off the side of a cliff rather than sit on top of it. Owners would be able to enter the home via a carport on the top floor; while an elevator lift allows them to navigate through each of the descending living spaces.
