With more of us self-isolating and working from home as a response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, traditional indoor board games have surged in popularity.
Sales data from online toy shop, Bargain Max, has found a huge increase in the number of board games purchased over the past week as families look for ways to fight off boredom at home.
Searches for board games are up 162 per cent year-on-year, with sales for board games up 62 per cent year-on-year, the retailer has revealed.
'We have seen a sharp rise in the sales of board games, especially since March 13th where demand has rocketed, reflecting the demand of the public looking for home entertainment whilst self-isolating,' said a spokesperson. 'Whilst we do not know how long this ongoing tricky situation will last, we are pleased to be able to provide a variety of options for those looking for entertainment at home.'
Recognising that many people are looking for new ways to entertain themselves at home, the popular site is also offering shoppers free delivery to stock up on the games they need. 'From today, all orders made online will be free of all delivery charges, which we hope will help families keep both costs down and children entertained. Also, Hermes, our delivery partner, have just announced that they will now be offering contactless delivery for any orders.'
