UPDATE: Channel 4 confirms Changing Rooms will return with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen as interior designer and Davina McCall as presenter – read the full story here
Changing Rooms, the much-loved 90s home makeover show, is rumoured to return to our screens after 16 years
Running for eight years on BBC One from 1996 to 2004, the iconic TV show involved two couples swapping houses and redecorating a room with the help of the expert designers including Linda Barker, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, 'Handy' Andy Kane, Anna Ryder Richardson, and presenter Carol Smillie.
Despite becoming a household favourite on BBC One, a new report reveals that Channel 4 is likely to take over the show – and there's certainly potential. A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: 'We are exploring the idea, but nothing is confirmed.'
Dubbed the 'greatest TV show in the UK', some of the most memorable moments include the teapot disaster (which saw Linda Barker hang delicate ceramic teapots on a floating shelf), plus the episode where silver rubber rings were placed in the living room as décor (the mum subsequently cried when seeing them). It was an interesting look, as fans will remember. But despite some rather out-there designs, Changing Rooms always ended in smiles.
A TV insider told The Sun: 'Changing Rooms was something of a phenomenon, spawning a long line of copycat makeover shows and it still retains a cult following. Not only did it spawn a long line of copycat makeover shows, it still retains a cult following among a whole generation of fans.'
Fingers crossed we get the reboot we've been hoping for...
