As we try to keep energy bills down without compromising on heating ourselves and our homes, one of the key ways to do this is by preserving the amount of heat that we have indoors – and one cost-effective way to do this is with draught excluders.
Draught excluders, also referred to as draft excluders or draught excluder cushions, not only keep in the heat that can escape through the gap at the bottom of the door, but they can save UK households a reported £125 a year on energy bills, according to the Centre for Sustainable Energy. With draughty doors causing up to 15 per cent of the heat loss in our homes, effectively placing draught excluders throughout and especially at the front door, can make a big difference.
'Households will see the most benefit from draught excluders and cushions only when placed effectively,' says retailer Next, revealing an increased demand for draught excluders, with on-site searches rocketing to 143 per cent in the last week. ‘Start by identifying doors in the house that may have a large gap between the floor and the door frame, this may be an entry point for cold air seeping into the room.'
Draft excluders are available in various sizes, finishes and materials but all are effective at preventing draughts from entering your home. For example, external door draught excluders can include self-adhesive strips, foam seals, and brush strips which can be screwed onto the bottom of doors and to keep debris out.
