Africa Daley-Clarke invites us into her family home on the Kent coast – a calming sanctuary for herself, her husband and their children, shaped by their heritage and the years spent living in London flats before they found their dream home. Her approach to decorating centres around creating a space that feels restorative – somewhere that lifts your spirits the moment you walk through the door.
Throughout, rustic limewash finishes soften the walls, pairing beautifully with the exposed brick that was revealed as the home was stripped back to its bones. Colours are drawn from the islands their families come from, Carriacou and Jamaica, with bold tones that look gently faded, as if sun-bleached over time.
The patterns and prints used around the home celebrate Africa and her husband’s Caribbean heritage, with wallpapers in the hallway and guest bedroom – designed in collaboration with Poodle & Blonde – honouring the Windrush generation, which included her grandparents.
Pieces throughout nod to their previous life in London, such as a Cann Hall Road sign referencing one of the family’s former homes, while a row of theatre seats, mid-century wall shelving, and even radiators have moved with them, finding new purpose.
It’s all held together by an appreciation of pre-loved pieces, lending character, warmth, and a sense of continuity.
