If you follow us on Instagram, you'll know that we are collectively obsessed with home renovations and spend an inordinate amount of time scrolling through inspirational room makeovers, and clever updates and savvy DIY transformations. We spotlight some of our favourites every week, and are lucky enough to visit many of the fabulous homes you see on social media to get a real behind the scenes look (our latest home tour with Melanie Lissack is a must-watch).
For us, a good renovation account includes lots of practical and honest advice (renovating is not for the faint-hearted and Instagram can sometimes belie its financial and emotional strain), realistic and affordable makeovers, and plenty of creative design inspiration.
Read on for 17 of our favourite renovators who are keeping us glued to our phones.
One of our favourite home renovators, Claire has such a fabulous eye for design, and she is still in the process of renovating her Victorian home, so we're watching in realtime as she creates a buttercup yellow kitchen and DIYs a sweet window seat. Her built-in wardrobe hack is a must-see.
Dominy's account is a must-follow for anyone who loves colourful homes full of pattern. There are some unbelievable budget transformations too, like her kitchen countertops that are wrapped in a stone-effect vinyl, and her Insta famous living room storage made from humble Ikea cabinets.
Melanie's account is a real treasure trove of savvy DIY projects with great results. She is our go-to if we want tips and ideas for upcyling old furniture or plain Ikea staples. Take a closer look in our BTS home tour.
You would never guess that Elle's vintage-inspired home is a result of a lot of elbow grease and hours and hours of painting – the home library was a DIY feat in itself. You'll love this account if you err on the side of soft romanticism, and want to add some elegant French influences to your own home.
Rachel of @ohmyedwardian is really in the trenches of her renovation, so she is a great one to follow for practical and real-time advice. As the name suggests, Rachel's home is an Edwardian villa, so it has very different proportions to the taller and narrower Victorian homes you see so often on social media – great if you're working with larger spaces and lower ceilings.
The house of 1,000 paint colours. Jen is known for painting and repainting her fabulous home in an array of delicious and sugary shades. She is super creative and really adept with almost any tool she picks up, so follow along for a step-by-step on everything, from reupholstering a headboard to making your own blinds...
Sharn undertakes some major renovation projects – she is currently transforming her loft space, and you can watch her kitchen renovation journey here. She uses colour brilliantly and has a lot of fun with design – a total antidote to the proliferation of greys and pampas grass online.
Everyone's favourite country cottage. Toby has the most brilliant eye for creating warm and layered interiors, with a special skill for making the most of a small space. He has just announced a new renovation project, and we will be glued to our phones every step of the way.
Follow Ore for her refreshing honesty about the cost of redesigning a home. In the midst of her renovation she created #spillthebill, a hashtag encouraging other online creators and interior influencers to be more transparent about the cost of their own renovations. We visited Ore to discuss her fabulous living room makeover – you can watch the video here.
Emma's account is like an instruction manual on how (and how not) to renovate. She is in the process of totally gutting and renovating an auction purchase and takes us on the journey in a totally practical, useful and honest way.
This is another great account for realtime renovations. Jacqueline is at the very start of a brand new renovation having documented the design evolution of her last home – which was utterly fabulous and featured one of our favourite loft bathroom transformations.
Lucy's account is a mix of her own home renovation and design inspiration from the very best corners of Instagram. Follow along for peeks into her vibrant 1900s cottage and to share in her eye for really great interiors.
If ever you needed a lesson in how small spaces do double duty, renovators Emily and Hugh are a must-follow. We visited Emily to chat about one of her smartest renovations – a home office created on her landing. Watch the video here.
We would call Dan of @a.modest.semi a restorer rather than a renovator, for his sensitivity towards the period of his home and skill for reinstating its most beautiful original features. Dan is a print designer, so expect a masterful use of colour and pattern.
Nina has transformed a contemporary home with a riot of rich jewel tones, vintage and antique furniture, Art Deco pattern and glossy black accents. We visited her to chat about how she created an opulent bathroom with affordable eBay finds. Watch the video here.
Hannah has done almost every part of her home renovation herself, from plumbing to carpentry to painting ceilings with fabulous results. On Instagram she shares detailed step-by-step guides on how to replicate her projects in your own home. We're starting with her stencilled floor tiles...
The absolute best account to follow for garden renovations. Rebecca is a garden designer by trade, and breaks down all of the landscaping advice and care tips you will ever need. Her trick for creating privacy in an overlooked garden went viral many times over, for good reason.
