The easiest way to transform a room? Swapping out your worn-out rug for a new option packed with pattern, color, or texture. Whether you want to add warmth to your hardwood flooring or snag a colorful runner to perk up a bland hallway, rugs are one of the most essential and versatile pieces in the home decor playbook. When it comes to area rugs, House Beautiful’s editors have high standards, and luckily Amazon houses several of our favorites.

Our rug-obsessed editors are always on the lookout for quality rugs that are actually worth the investment—even putting them to the test in our own homes. Among our picks are everything from area rugs designed by Joanna Gaines for Loloi to multi-functional indoor/outdoor options for your patio and your living room. Editor-loved brands like Revival and Loloi are available on Amazon, and most of these rugs don’t break the bank (many are under $400). With options that complement a wide range of interior styles for almost every room in the house, you’re bound to find the perfect rug for your space ahead.

Joanna Gaines's collab with Loloi is packed with rugs that give any space a touch of farmhouse flair. Complete with antique motifs, subtle distressing, and a muted green color palette, this vintage-inspired rug is a solid pick to anchor any room.

You can’t go wrong with a classic wool-blend pick for your home, and Senior Commerce Editor Marina Liao is a big fan of this one from Rugs USA. "The wool rugs are not expensive, and they feel soft and sturdy when you step on them. I use these rugs without rug pads, and they have not shifted, and the corners do not flip up." The design was formerly part of design enthusiast Arvin Olano’s collaboration with the brand.

Our editors are always on a mission to find the best washable area rugs, and luckily one of our top-tested brands is on Amazon. We like Revival rugs for its array of washable natural fiber options and contemporary textures. Three of our editors can vouch for this recycled polyester stripe rug that’s Oeko-TEX certified.

Tester Elyse Moody tested this rug in a high traffic playroom area in her home. “It’s as soft as any of my daughter’s stuffed animals—plus, in spite of being so light it never looked dirty,” she says after owning it for over two years. “I feel like it really punches above its weight in terms of the cost versus quality,” says another tester Olivia Hosken.

Looking for an ultra-textured rug that doesn't skimp on softness? Opt for this shag rug, which features a subtle Moroccan-inspired pattern. Reviewers say the high-pile weave is durable enough for high-traffic areas.

It's always nice to have a rug that can pull double duty on hand. This braided option not only comes in multiple colors, but can be used indoors as a layering piece or outside on your porch to create a cozy atmosphere once the weather warms up.

If you’re in the market for a lush, soft rug, Associate Shopping Editor Janae McKenzie is a fan of Loloi’s CloudPile rugs. “In my humble opinion, no rug feels like a CloudPile rug," she says. "It has the softness of your favorite pair of socks, and I end up rubbing my feet back and forth on it like a little kid.”

McKenzie has the plum color from the Chris Loves Julia Humphrey collection, noting that the vertical stripes can even disguise spills. It’s easy to vacuum and clean, but it is heavy and difficult to move.

This washable rug from one of the more affordable options our editors love, and it doesn’t even need a rug pad. "Though it is screen-printed (versus loomed), it has a soft, almost blanket-like feel that's plush to the touch," says Commerce Manager Mackenzie Dunn. "Its not the thickest rug in the world, but it still provides nice cushioning without a rug pad underneath. I did a lot of research to find the perfect Amazon rug, and I honestly like this one so much that I may have to get another design for another room in the house.”

A jute rug adds an earthy, organic texture to your space, and we like this hand-woven option with a medium pile. It has tassel detailing for a boho-inspired touch and cozier feel. Because it’s made from 100 percent jute fibers, minor shedding and loose threads will occur. To properly care for it, vacuum once or twice a week on the lowest setting and trim any longer fibers with scissors.

While a bright flower-filled rug is always a pretty option, we're partial to moodier florals. Not only do their darker color palettes suit all-season styling, but they also perfectly disguise stains, making them a great choice for spaces where your family spends a lot of time.

Earthy hues like olive green, terracotta clay, and ivory are always a safe bet for those who want something neutral and can coexist with your current furniture. Jeremiah Brent’s Barrow Collection with Loloi has several contemporary designs in these tones to complement a wide range of spaces, whether it’s a traditional living room or a modern bedroom.

A good jute rug is packed with enough texture to transform a room. Although we love styling a gorgeous braided rug on its own, we also can't resist layering them under accent rugs that lend a pop of pattern or color.

We don't know what we love most about this rug—the satisfying symmetrical arches, the parallel pattern play, or the durable jute construction. If you've been equally entranced by this one, you're in luck: It's available in a wide range of sizes to fit perfectly in any space you choose.

Now that it looks like scallops are more than a passing trend, there's no better time to commit to a show-stopping area rug ringed with scalloped edges. This rug is also available in a peppy blue if you feel a bit more daring.

Whether you're decorating a beachfront porch or simply can't resist a preppy pattern, this striped outdoor rug gives off major nautical vibes. Not only is it stain- and UV-resistant to prevent fading, but it's easy to clean with a simple hose down.

Distressed antique-inspired rugs were a top trend last year, and we’re still obsessed with its opulent look. This rug from editor-favorite Loloi offers plenty of color with its terracotta base and contrasting sky blue detailing. It’ll add warmth and character to any space, especially a room with plenty of greenery.

Although Gen Z has tried to claim checkerboard as their own, there's no denying that the natural tones on this diamond print rug are utterly timeless. The jute texture and low-pile finish mean this number is durable and easy to care for.

Door mats don’t have to be basic. This top-rated pick from Amazon is equipped with a heavy-duty non-slip backing and it’s made from coconut-derived coir that will trap dirt, preventing debris from tracking through your home. It comes in several different styles, but we like the simple look of this border design.

No matter if you're looking to channel après-ski or want a glam option worth sinking your feet into, a sheepskin rug is a must. Complete with an abstract shape, this soft rug works with nearly every home aesthetic, from minimalist to rustic.

A good entryway rug can withstand constant traffic, disguise stains from muddy feet and can be easily tossed in the washer. This option checks all of the boxes! Not only are we fans of its slightly distressed pattern, but its low-pile finish and dark color makes it foot traffic-ready.
