WGSN and Coloro are taking us two years into the future with the unveiling of their 2028 color of the year: Radiant Earth. The rustic, clay-toned red is meant to bridge the past, present, and future through its versatility and represents a bold transition from the pair’s 2027 pick, luminous blue. Meant to be a complementary rather than secondary tone, Radient Earth is described by the trend-forecasting agency as an “assertive” neutral.
“In a world that often feels chaotic, we're seeing a shift toward emotions like resilience and flourishing. Radiant Earth perfectly anchors this emotional mindset, offering a grounded, reliable neutral that fosters deep-seated trust," says Stephanie Barnscher, Senior Color Forecaster at WGSN, in a press release shared with House Beautiful.
Grounded and earthy, the shade embodies what WGSN’s forecasters and the experts at Coloro believe society will crave in two years, a shift from ideals of static stability and a push for inventiveness. In their analysis, the teams drew inspiration from the warmth, beauty, and assurance found in the sun’s afterglow. Working with a heightened focus on themes of healing, power, and restoration, they abandoned the long-favored “pop” of color in favor of a warmer sentiment instead.
“For brands, this color helps to create products and environments that feel both reassuringly nostalgic and confidently future-ready,” Barnscher says.
Above all, the shade is versatile, lending itself well to matte, glossy, and iridescent finishes and translating well across a range of materials. From kitchen backsplashes to bedroom walls, we're curious to see if Radiant Earth will be radiating in our homes come 2028.
