Trendy home exterior features don’t ebb and flow the way interior trends having to do with decor and color do. They’re too permanent and expensive for that. But that doesn’t mean your home’s outdoor spaces—including your deck, garage, and other ancillary structures—shouldn’t evolve and keep up with the times. You just want to be sure any changes you make will stand the test of time. Luckily, we can’t imagine the deck trends we’re seeing this year looking dated anytime soon.
We reached out to numerous deck and architectural experts to share deck trend predictions for 2025. Some zeroed in on construction, citing requests for more sustainable materials or and subtler stains. Others commented on decor. One thing all these deck trends have in common? “Pedestal decking is a growing deck trend as it’s a way of decking on top of a roof. While not a new system, it’s only going to become more common as people develop outdoor spaces on top of buildings. The deck tiles (which can be custom made or purchased in a variety of wood materials), sit on adjustable pedestals and allow for easy maintenance or repair of the roofing membrane below without having to disassemble the entire deck. This system is also frequently paired with green roofing.”
