The best antidote to the all-day gray of Manhattan's concrete and steel: A playful Park Avenue apartment that Los Angeles designer Mark D. Sikes decked out in a not-so-quiet riot of rollicking colors, patterns and textures.

Wanting to do something "dramatic and glamorous" in the foyer, Sikes extended Schumacher's silk Bernal Braid trim from the linen-covered custom sofa onto the walls. The mirror and garden stools are from John Rosselli Antiques.
Sikes took advantage of the length of the foyer to create an extra seating area. The armchair is by McGuire. The jaguar-print carpet is from ABC Carpet & Home.
Walls in Benjamin Moore's Misty Lilac ground gutsy patterns in the living room. Two 19th-century Chinese ancestral paintings hang over the sofa, framed by porcelain jars in blue and white — a Sikes signature — on wall brackets.
The boldest gesture in the vibrant living room is Hickory Chair's Carter sofa, upholstered in an overscale ikat by Brunschwig & Fils. A John Rosselli & Associates cocktail table holds design and art books. The swing-arm sconce is by Visual Comfort.
An armchair in Baker Lifestyle's Nara fabric is paired with an antique Anglo-Indian side table.
In the dining room, a custom de Gournay wallpaper creates a garden ambience. The cushions on the Scalamandré bamboo armchairs are covered in Mengikat by Kravet; the settee is also by Kravet.
Iksel's Iznik wallpaper lends an Ottoman touch to the powder room.
Lilac gets a reprise in the master bedroom, both in the custom headboard and the floral accents of the Hummingbirds wallpaper by Cole & Son. The bed is dressed in linens from Restoration Hardware, and the swing-arm light is from Vaughan. Pottery Barn's Duncan Diamond rug adds a neutral counterpoint to a room filled with pattern and color.
