There are very few design motifs that can stop interior design lovers mid-scroll quite like Sheila Bridges’ Harlem Toile.

Over the last two decades, the instantly recognizable pattern—Bridges’ joyful reinterpretation of traditional French toile through scenes inspired by Black American life and culture—has appeared everywhere, from museum gift shops to some of the country’s most beautiful homes (yes, including Gayle King’s, which I once had the pleasure of seeing in person).

Now, for the first time, the legendary designer is bringing that world to Walmart with a limited-edition outdoor entertaining collection that feels deeply personal, genuinely fun, and refreshingly adorable.

Launching June 1 exclusively online at Walmart, the 14-piece Philadelphia Collection includes melamine dinnerware, serving platters, pitchers, gingham tumblers, oven mitts, cake stands, and more—all priced under $20.

While the collaboration marks Bridges’s most accessible price point yet, this isn’t simply a luxury designer “going mass.” If anything, it feels like a return to the kind of entertaining Bridges actually grew up with. “My parents had annual July 4th and summer barbecues and picnics and things, and they were huge,” Bridges tells House Beautiful. “They were iconic.”

“I just want to celebrate the idea of getting together in person and gathering with friends and family and loved ones and neighbors,” she says. “Ever since the pandemic, the way that we come together and entertain has really shifted.”

The collection is rooted in Philadelphia, where Bridges was born and raised, and arrives as the United States approaches its 250th, or semiquincentennial, anniversary. Rather than creating a traditional Americana collection, Bridges dreamt up what she describes as “a visual remix” of her childhood memories, Philadelphia iconography, and her signature layered approach to design.

Philadelphia landmarks appear alongside gingham picnic patterns, while playful nods to Philly soft pretzels and hot dogs adorn the BBQ mitts, and updated Harlem Toile motifs appear in stars-and-stripes-inspired looks. Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell show up across the tabletop pieces, while “Declaration” salad plates weave excerpts from America’s founding document beneath cheerful gingham patterns.

It’s also packed with the kind of witty details that make people fall in love with Bridges’ work in the first place. Benjamin Franklin appears on a cake stand alongside the phrase “Have your cake and eat it too.” And her signature Harlem Toile appears on everything from salad plates to a lemonade-ready pitcher and an outdoor ice bucket designed for long summer weekends.

Bridges envisioned the collection as a layered form of storytelling for the table, weaving together different facets of the American experience through summer gatherings and celebrations. “The layering is also context; it’s also history,” she explains.

At its core, though, the collection is about joy. Growing up, Bridges’s parents hosted massive summer gatherings at their Philadelphia home, where the family lived for more than 50 years. “We had competitive horseshoes and badminton and ping pong, and every photo of me I have a popsicle in my hand,” she says, laughing.

For Bridges, partnering with Walmart was about access. “Making my designs accessible to everyone has always been the goal,” she says. Despite the lower price point, Bridges says the quality was non-negotiable: “My name would not be on this if it was.” Now, these pieces can live at your Juneteenth cookout, July 4th barbecue, Labor Day picnic, or random Tuesday night dinner outside with neighbors.

The Sheila Bridges Philadelphia Collection launches June 1 exclusively online at Walmart.com/sheilabridges, with prices ranging from $12.76 to $19.76, and once it sells out, it’s gone forever. Which is exactly why I’ll be placing my order as soon as this article goes live.
