Between city dwellers making Labor Day moves, college students returning to campus, and recent grads getting their first homes, IKEA runs are pretty popular. It’s the ideal destination for affordable, lightweight furniture and organization, especially for renters wanting to customize their space. That’s why IKEA’s newest collection, KOMPISHÄNG, caught our eye. It’s designed for nomads and frequent movers.
The latest furniture drop is packed with multi-purpose, foldable, and space-saving pieces. It’s all those genius unsung heroes that save you so much headache when you need to head to the next home. Any of these pieces would be a welcome housewarming gift for someone’s studio apartment, or as handy dorm decor. Like many House Beautiful editors, I live in a smaller apartment in the NYC area, so any small-space-friendly furniture is welcome in my home.
With pops of red and forest green color, this collection is an antidote to “landlord special” interiors. A foldable red side table, a latticed over-door hanger, and a shopping bag on wheels were just a few of the cool pieces in the new collection. The one that truly won me over, though, was the stool set.
I rarely describe a piece of furniture as “sexy,” but these stools earned that description. They’re similar to IKEA’s iconic Kyrre stools—still made of birch, still stackable, but resting on four legs instead of three. The coolest feature is that the legs interlock on top of each other, turning it into a colorful display area. So instead of collecting dust in between hosting, it’s a functional and beautiful part of my home.
Of course, as a plant parent, the green top meant this was a perfect plant stand. But it can also double as extra guest seating or as another side table in a pinch. I wanted these stools so much that I wasn’t willing to wait for the collection to go live online. Last weekend, I rushed to my local IKEA and made a beeline for them. I’m glad I did, because they sold out in stores just two days later.
As of August 15, the KOMPISHÄNG pieces are available to shop online, but whatever you’re eyeing, don’t hesitate. Mark my words, this is a collection that WILL go viral.
