Quince is the go-to destination for finding cashmere sweaters and gloves at affordable prices, linen bedding that gets softer with time, and even suitcases. The popular online brand seemingly has everything, including furniture like sofas, beds, and accent chairs. Many Quince pieces have surpassed our editors’ expectations, including my own, but when it came to the furniture, we were a bit skeptical: Can a retailer that has its hands in everything actually produce high-quality furniture at such affordable prices? Thankfully, I didn’t have to look far for real shopper testimonials because my sister-in-law got the Quince Stillman Sleeper Sofa for her new house, and had plenty to say about it.

Between having a small child, a mortgage payment, a second car payment, and growing financial responsibilities, she and her husband wanted an affordable sleeper sofa that could pull its own weight in the household. She chose the Quince couch in a light gray shade because I had personally spoken highly of the brand, and the sofa costs way less than similar styles on the market. Because this will likely be my sleeping spot when I visit her in two months, I had to get the lowdown on this sofa from her beforehand.

Ahead, I’ll break down whether Quince furniture, specifically its sleeper sofa, is actually well-built and worth buying.

Delivery and Assembly

The Quince Sleeper Sofa is made to order, so it will take some time to be delivered to you. If you need a sofa ASAP, this is not the one to get, as it will take about a month or longer to arrive—the website says a “four to six weeks” time frame, but that is a conservative estimate.

My sister-in-law and her husband ordered their sofa around the holidays, and it took over three months to be delivered. The silver lining here is that the furniture comes with white-glove delivery, ensuring you don’t have to lift a single finger!

“The couch came in one piece with no need for assembly. But that also meant it was really heavy and large. The delivery people were great though, working with me on figuring out how to get it in the house, given the narrow entryways,” Ami Jo says. “They tried to get it in the front door, but it couldn't make the turn into our living room, so they had to go around the backyard and up the deck to bring it in through our kitchen. We had hoped to put it into our back office, but the hallways were too narrow. But they thoroughly assessed the situation to identify potential solutions and were very communicative and nice about trying to get it to work. Eventually, we settled on just putting it in our living room, but we definitely can't complain about the service.”

You may not be able to tell from the product shots, but in real life, the Quince sleeper sofa looks quite high-end for the price. “When we initially got the sofa, we thought it was a comfy-looking piece of furniture. It doesn’t look cheap,” tester Andrew Jarrett says. “The sofa upgraded the feel of our living room, though it was bigger than we thought it would be. I guess, depending on how much room you have in your home, this could be either a positive or a negative. We couldn’t put it into the office, where we initially imagined having the sleeper sofa, because it didn’t fit, so it’s now in the living room, and we do like it where it is now.” He admitted they hadn’t measured the sofa beforehand and had assumed the size would fit. A word to the wise: always measure your space!

“The couch is very comfortable, if you like that softer feel. I’ve been telling people that it’s the perfect ‘nap couch,’” Jarrett says. He shares that the color of the sofa (they got the sleeper in Flax, a light gray shade) was exactly as depicted online, though it took so long for the sofa to arrive that he actually forgot what shade they had originally ordered.

How It Feels to Sit on It

The sofa is soft with medium-firm seat cushions. “It feels really comfortable to sit in, with deep seats, and even though we have another ergonomic couch in the room, everyone’s kind of fighting for the same space on this Quince sofa,” Jarrett says. He hangs out on the sofa with his wife, two-year-old child, and 40-pound dog quite comfortably, noting that three adults would fit comfortably, and you could possibly pile on a fourth person. “Also, it’s big enough that me being 5’11, I can sleep comfortably on it without turning this into the bed portion,” he adds.

My sister-in-law has back issues, which is why they chose an ergonomic couch previously. Even though Quince doesn’t claim its sofa reduces back pain, they’ve both reported that this sofa doesn’t hurt their backs! “Ami hasn’t said anything about the Quince sofa bothering her back,” Jarrett says. “Even though it has deep seats, there are also generous back cushions that keep you supported.

How It Feels to Sleep on It

Little effort is involved to turn the Quince sofa into the perfect sleeping spot. “You just take off the cushion seats, lift up the handle, and pull the mattress out,” Jarrett says. “The bed is super easy to pull out and put back in. The back cushions do a good job of framing the bed on the sides, and sleeping on this is more comfortable than an air mattress, especially for guests.”

One con they experienced while sleeping on the bed is that it feels slanted. "The only kind of issue we have, and it could be because of where it is in our room or with the carpet or something, but you almost feel like you're upside down. If you don't get into a good position, the end of the bed feels [lifted up] higher than the front," Jarrett notes. He says he plans to fiddle with the rug underneath to see if this is contributing to the extra height of the bed, or maybe their floors are just uneven.

"The bed feels sturdy, and the five-inch queen-size memory foam mattress is on the softer end. I grew up sleeping on a lot of pullout couches when I would stay with either side of my grandparents. This is by far the most comfortable one that I've slept in," he says. "Ami and I have taken turns sleeping on the bed when one of us needs a more consistent night of sleep because we currently co-sleep with our daughter in our bedroom. We've also had a few family movie nights with the bed pulled out with popcorn, which creates this nice and cozy night-in vibe."

Is This Sleeper Sofa Pet and/or Kid-Friendly?

According to Jarrett, the Quince Stillman Sleeper Sofa is indeed family-friendly. "I have a dog and a small child jumping on it, and the sofa seems to handle that just fine," he says. "I am not worried about her falling off the sofa [because the seats are so big], either. My daughter did get hold of a marker and left a mark on the sofa. We tried to clean this off, but I wouldn't say the fabric is the easiest to clean, since it's a light color. That's something to consider if you're worried about marks. However, the sofa hasn't gotten visibly dirty enough to be like 'oh, we need to wash it [or hire someone professionally to clean it]'. So far, the performance fabric seems to be resilient."

Cleaning and Maintenance

The Quince website says that the performance basketweave fabric covers "are removable and machine washable on the gentle cycle up to 85°F." You will have to air-dry the covers, since the website doesn't specify if you can tumble-dry them. " Jarrett says they vacuum the sofa regularly, and though the fabric holds up to wear and tear, the crevices aren't immune to crumbs.

"We have our daughter running around with snacks, and we've noticed it's hard to remove crumbs from the fabric and sofa crevices. The crevices are really bad; it does feel like that stereotypical area where you're going to find a bunch of change or food from last week," he notes. Daily maintenance is easy for this sofa, but if you want a deeper clean that Monica Geller would approve of, it's best to contact professionals.

Is the Quince Sleeper Sofa Worth Buying?

The Quince sleeper sofa has received its fair share of sits, naps, and jumps from both a child and a dog.

Short answer: yes. "I would highly recommend it, especially for that under $2k price. The sleeper sofa easily feels like two or three times that cost," Jarrett says. "I fell in love with this sofa almost immediately." He adds that not only does the sleeper sofa look nice in sofa mode, but everything from the fabric to feel to comfort has seriously impressed him and his family. "If you're looking for a nice piece of furniture that doubles as a sleeping area for guests in a pinch, to leave out on display, this sofa is very nice in a family room or living room," he adds.

As he has slept on numerous sleeper sofas before, this is the only one he calls comfortable. "Every sleeper sofa that I remember sleeping in, you kind of have this sinking feeling when you're on it just because of how the mattress is and where the support bars are, but with the Quince sleeper sofa, it feels like you are on a nice, sturdy mattress all the way through," Jarrett says. "Even if that sturdy mattress can sometimes make me feel like a little blood's rushing to my head [I still love it]. The only time I wouldn't recommend this sofa to someone is if they live in a tiny apartment—the couch is bigger than it looks—unless they want that one furniture piece [to pull double duty], in which case, the Quince sofa could definitely be that [one statement item] in the space."
