At House Beautiful, our shopping editors keep an eye on the latest interior design trends to know, whether that conversation is on light fixtures or circus tent stripes. Nothing escapes us and right now, corduroy couches are seemingly everywhere, from our social media feeds to House Beautiful’s most recent Whole Home, where local interior designer Kate Marker included not one but two corduroy couches in the library. “The material’s masculine appeal was suited to the overall vibe we were trying to emulate in the room,” she says. “We wanted to use corduroy as an added element of texture and dimension. Not to mention, it’s soft and cozy, perfect for our intention of designing a multipurpose room.”
Corduroy, as you likely know, is a much less expected material in couches than say leather or velvet, so if you want to opt for something unique, you can’t go wrong with corduroy. Marker adds, “It also offers a more relaxed and laid-back aesthetic compared to the luxurious feel of velvet or the sleekness of leather.” It’s also a not-so-subtle blast from the past. Corduroy was a commonly used material for both furniture and clothing in the 1970s, which was a fun and charismatic time for design, so we’re all for bringing it back in a big way.
Whether you're on the hunt for a new couch, or simply want to see gorgeous imagery, we rounded up our favorite corduroy seatings to shop ahead. Embrace one of the year’s biggest and most loved trends.
