The best design inspo is closer to home than you think.
As design editors, we’re always looking for and sourcing inspiration from around the world. Whether it’s admiring an ornate chandelier in an Italian hotel or wandering through a tranquil garden in Kyoto, our eyes are peeled for the next big thing to write about or share with the group chat. This month, we’re getting inspo slightly closer to home by browsing and appreciating the items made right here in the States. After all, buying beautiful things—furniture, mattresses, decor, and more—that are made closer to home helps to avoid costly import tariffs and also minimizes our carbon footprint from overseas shipping.
Full disclosure: Every company on our list below has said in statements that their pieces are crafted in the U.S., though we cannot always confirm where they source their raw materials. That said, if you want to buy from American-made businesses and support your local communities, we suggest adding a piece or two from the retailers below to your cart ASAP.

Tupelo Goods
For outdoor furniture that lasts, check out Tupelo Goods, which was founded by former YETI executives. The brand specializes in sculptural, American-made pieces ranging from dining chairs to pool loungers. If you want to get their newest pieces, check out three fresh colors inspired by the natural landscapes and vibrant energy of summer: marigold, sea glass, and cactus.
East Fork
Located in Asheville, North Carolina, this pottery and home goods store is beloved by editors for its gorgeous and sturdy ceramic dinnerware. The pieces are made at East Fork’s factories in Asheville using raw materials sourced from the American Southeast. If you prefer filling your kitchen cabinets with handcrafted dinnerware by pro potters, this is the spot to pick up some pieces.
Arhaus
Founded in 1986, Arhaus focuses on producing sustainable furniture and decor with artisans. Its main headquarters are in Ohio while much of its upholstered furniture like sofas, sectionals, and chairs are made to order in North Carolina. Note that many of its other high-quality goods like lighting and rugs are sourced from global specialists in India and Italy.
Room & Board
Ninety percent of the furniture and decor from this brand is made in the United States in places like Vermont, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and California while the other 10 percent is sourced overseas. The aesthetic leans modern American with a focus on timeless and functional design.
“I bought one of their tables (secondhand from Facebook Marketplace) and it was the sturdiest table I owned in my life and impervious to daily use for four years,” Senior Commerce Editor Marina Liao says. “I say four years because when we moved, we couldn’t fit the kitchen table in our new spot and had to leave it behind. Luckily, the next renters wanted it, recognizing it was a high-quality piece.”
Maiden Home
If you want to introduce the most luxurious fabrics and materials into your space, you need to shop Maiden Home. The furniture is all handcrafted in North Carolina while the pieces are designed in New York City, giving them that pied-à-terre–approved feel. Think of these pieces as chic finds you’d spot inside a Brooklyn brownstone or Tribeca apartment.
All-Clad
Yes, All-Clad, the highly durable cookware company that has lived in some of the most impressive kitchens since its inception in 1971, produces all of its pots and pans in America, specifically in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, a few hours west of Philadelphia. If you've ever wondered where the brand name came from, look to founder John Ulam, a metallurgist who developed specific coatings he applied to different metals that made them more or less indestructible. He then applied his "cladding" technique to cookware, and there you have it; All-Clad was born.
Chasing Paper
Chasing Paper and all of its products, including peel-and-stick floor tiles and wallpaper, are made in the U.S. According to the brand's website, "We are proud to source all of our materials from the USA + employ a wonderful team in the Heartland." If you're wondering where in the heartland these dreamy products are made, look to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our editors love their peel-and-stick wallpaper designs.
Framebridge
If you've ever worked with Framebridge, you may already know how much it values its American-made products. "I actually took my boyfriend's graduate degree to the physical location near our New York City apartment and the sales associate helping me told me that all of the frames are made in America almost immediately," Associate Shopping Editor Jessica Cherner says. "Once I customized my frame design, the associate sent it to the manufacturing facility in Richmond, Kentucky, which sent it to the fulfillment center in New Jersey, from which the frame was driven back to Manhattan a week and a half later for me to pick up. It was a very seamless process." The headquarters are located in Washington, D.C.
BenchMade Modern
If there's any confusion about where BenchMade Modern produces its furniture, the brand's tagline should clear it up: It's "custom-made in America," specifically in Dallas, Texas, and Los Angeles, California. The fact that its sofas and tables are crafted domestically is only one of the myriad things we love about this brand. Another is the fact that it makes shopping for anything really easy. Just follow the simple steps on the homepage. To break it down a bit, though, start by perusing the brand's 14 collections to get a sense of your style, then choose the size and upholstery, and click "purchase." The way the site is set up, you won't be overwhelmed by choice. We promise! Saatva
Typically, mattresses arrive rolled up in a tight cylinder and covered in thick shrink wrap so that they will fit in a box small enough to fit through your front door. Not Saatva. According to Saatva.com, "Your Saatva mattress is crafted in the U.S. when you order it, and it’s never stuffed in a box, for a more durable mattress from night one." The brand admits it does source some of its materials, such as the organic cotton and recycled steel coils from outside the American border, but everything is made in the States. Each one is made to order, and our editors love the Saatva Rx and Classic mattresses.
American Wood
There's no need to wonder for too long about where American Wood makes its beautiful organic pieces. After all, it's quite literally in the name. Not only is the lumber used sustainably sourced in American forests, but the furniture is handmade in the brand's small Ohio facility. The brand's biggest point of pride, though, is the furniture's lasting power. The website even promises, "Built to last a lifetime," and they mean it.
M.A. Hadley
If you have a soft spot for charmingly illustrated ceramics that look like they belong in a New England cottage on the beach, spend a few minutes on M.A. Hadley's site. The ceramics brand was started by its eponymous founder, Mary Alice Hadley, who established one of Louisville's now-iconic pottery practices. Sadly, she passed away in 1965, but her creativity and her charm live on in her business, which is very much still running out of Kentucky. In case you can't tell, each piece is made by hand from start to finish.
Candlefish
While Candlefish boasts an enormous candle library featuring pretty much any scent you'd want, you can also make the candles yourself in any of their brick-and-mortar outposts across the U.S.—although the best one is arguably in Charleston, where the brand is based. Here, all of the fragrances are mixed and poured into the wax by hand, ensuring a luxurious experience for anyone lucky enough to inhale the sweet scents.
Etsy
We couldn't resist including Etsy on this list because it is the place to find and support small businesses right here in the States (and around the world). You can filter and look for makers/sellers within the States, which is one of the best ways to support a business you might never have heard of. Feel free to commission something you need (or want) from a maker whose style you like by messaging them on the platform to coordinate and discuss, or buy something post-production.
