If there is one House Beautiful staffer most qualified to discuss the topic of best bathrobes, it is me, Associate Shopping Editor Jessica Cherner, who, over the last six or so years, has owned seven bathrobes—some of which are still in my rotation. As for the ones that didn't make it, the robes were not at fault—they were victims of my clumsiness and penchant for spilling stain-inducing substances. I have always loved bathrobes, and I have a different one for each season because, living in New York with shoddy HVAC systems, I really feel the highs and lows of each season's temperatures, and having a bathrobe to get cozy in is key for me.
Ahead, I have amassed a list of mostly well-known best-sellers, but there may be one or two on here with which you're unfamiliar, so allow me to give you a first-person introduction to make your holidays that much cozier. This whimsical bathrobe may seem like a bold choice to crown the best overall, but I have good reason to back up my choice. I bought this when it was on pre-order only because I had to have it. First of all, I love a short robe, and this hits just above the knee. Second, I truly cannot deal with the adorable toile-inspired pattern and heart-shaped pockets that can hold way more than you'd think. Lastly, it is the perfect all-seasons robe that keeps you cozy in winter without making you sweat in summer. I wear my robe while blow-drying my hair in my small New York City bathroom, and it gets hot in there fast, but this bathrobe doesn't make me feel any warmer.
Full disclosure: this is not something you'd want to slip into after a shower because it will not absorb the excess water on your skin; it will just get wet and make you feel like you're wearing a wet, fuzzy blanket. I got this as a gift during a bachelorette trip, and it definitely got me through the weekend. The house we rented was absolutely freezing, and it was really cozy and cute when all of our friends wrapped ourselves up in these robes, lit a fire, and watched The Parent Trap. The latest is this bathrobe. My journey to this bathrobe was zig-zagged. First, I ordered the Resort robe because the color combination and 1970s-inspired pattern really captured my heart. When it arrived, I noticed immediately that the robe was exceptionally soft, but it barely covered the areas it needed to. If I lifted my hands above my head, which I must do when I dry my hair, game over.
So, I exchanged it for the Luxe robe, which is somehow even softer. It's also just mere inches above my ankles, which is the ideal length for a big, fluffy robe. If part of the joy of vacations is the bathrobe, this Weezie find is about to make you very happy. I bought this in the very beginning of the pandemic as a birthday gift for myself—monogrammed, of course—and loved it for as long as I could before I spilled red wine on the entire left sleeve. As a former travel editor, I have worn many a hotel robe, and this Weezie one is the closest to all my favorites, which is why I invested in one. The best part about it is that it's not too heavy.
I have never felt more like a Vanderbilt than when I slip this 100 percent Mongolian cashmere robe and tie it loosely around my waist. It may not be thick and fluffy, but it's definitely warm. For me, it's not what I grab straight out of the shower, but something I throw on over my light pajamas for an extra layer of warmth while I watch a movie or get ready for bed. It's like another layer of pajamas, if you will. Because it's cashmere, I don't hang it by the hook because it just stretches out, so I hang it on an actual hanger in my closet to keep the shape.
Hill House Home, famous for its beloved Nap dress, knows how to make comfy, very stylish clothing, and this robe is no exception. It's the kind of thing you'd throw on before an outfit when you're getting ready to go to work or out to dinner. It weighs next to nothing and has a slight stretch, making it feel very similar to pajamas. I will say, this one is also a tiny bit short on me. If I could make it two inches longer, it would be the perfect summery robe, but it is still worth getting. I actually fold it up and stuff it in my suitcase whenever I travel to my in-laws' house. I am hardly the first to announce that the Barefoot Dreams robe is worth the investment, and I have the receipts to prove it. I got both this robe and the matching slippers as a birthday gift several years ago, and while I don't have the slippers (they pilled and shed quite a bit), the bathrobe is in my winter rotation. It feels like a very soft chenille, which, I think, is why people love it so much. Similar to the pink option on our list, this one isn't the most absorbent; it's more for cozy comfort than it is for post-shower drying.
