NHS workers serving on the frontline can get free home room makeovers as a thank you for their continued hard work during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Design Havens for Heroes is an inspiring community of talents from all areas of the interior design field, which aims to create 'havens' for those dealing with the physical demands of the pandemic by redecorating their homes free of charge.

The initiative consists of suppliers, interior designers, stylists, homeware brands, skilled makers and tradespeople, who will donate their time, skills, experience and products to bring a smile to those working tirelessly.

Some of those involved include Little Greene, Edward Bulmer Paints, Tom Dixon, Carpetright, Sofa.com and Colefax & Fowler.

'I felt as the crisis unfolded there was something I really wanted to do to help in a creative way and with my background it felt the most helpful thing I could do,' explains Design Havens for Heroes founder, interior designer Francesca Rowan-Plowden.

'We want the NHS to know that Design Havens for Heroes is here to support the NHS not only now, but for the long term. As long as we have the designers and brands we will continue to create the havens. We are in this together.'

Interior designer and House Beautiful contributer, Andrew Jonathan Griffiths, tells us why it was so important to get involved with the project: 'I saw one of the initial calls for designers to be involved on Instagram and straight away offered my time as I really wanted to do something to give back in these unusual times. So many designers and brands have now offered their support, including a number of other designers from the Interior Design Collective of which I'm part.

'We're living in quite surreal times, but despite the challenges, many of us are fortunate enough to be safely spending time at home while those on the frontline work tirelessly. They're giving their time to help care for us, so if we're able to use our time and skills to help give them a sanctuary at home, it feels like a comparatively small but meaningful gesture to say thank you.'

How does it work?

If you know someone working for the NHS, nominate them via the Design Havens for Heroes Instagram page, or email nominations@designhavensforheroes.org.uk to get in touch. You can also simply comment on each of the posts, tagging the person you want to nominate.

Once the team have chosen the winning workers, they will be in touch to arrange the makeover. It really is a great way to give back to those serving our nation.
