Ever since Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash moved into their new family home, we've been keeping an eye out for inspiring decorating updates. The latest is a seasonal hallway upgrade that we will absolutely be copying.
Last weekend, Stacey shared her newly decorated autumnal staircase in what she gleefully calls 'the Home Alone hallway of my childhood dreams.' Adorned with colourful garlands, fairy lights and pumpkins, she's taken an old, traditional wooden staircase and added a warm, seasonal display.
With the transformation, Stacey pondered a classic decorating dilemma: what's the best way to refresh an old staircase? She writes on Instagram:
'I love these stairs 😭. They’re old & worn but they’re beautiful. The question is… Paint them? Sand them back & lighten them? Or keep them dark? Every little detail is just so special I want to honour them but also they need some TLC!...All I know is for now they’re the perfect mood for some early autumn decoration.'
Ahead are all the steps to follow to recreate Stacey's display, or for a quick and low-effort option, this £20 autumnal wreath from Dunelm will do the trick.
How to recreate Stacey's autumnal staircase
1. Wrap a garland around the banister
First, Stacey adds a leafy garland to her banister. The garland she chose includes orange flowers, mini pumpkins and wild berries. For a similar look, try this £24.99 garland from B&Q.
2. Add silver lanterns
Next, it's time to bring in some rustic silver lanterns. Stacey has gone for a variety of sizes, mixing two large lanterns with a smaller one, and surrounds them with flowers and miniature pumpkins.
3. Layer with fairy lights
For an extra cosy feeling as the nights draw in, consider weaving LED fairy lights through your garland. It's a simple trick that will instantly elevate your display.
4. Hang up an autumnal wreath
If you want to draw the eye upwards as Stacey has done, add a wreath to one wall. This £20 option from Dunelm continues the pumpkin theme.
5. Finish with candles
For that extra twinkling touch, add a few battery-operated candles. Lights4fun is our go-to for LED pillar candles at great prices.
