Monty Don's announcement that he is leaving BBC Gardeners’ World after more than 20 years on the programme, has prompted an outpouring of emotional tributes from viewers, famous faces and former colleagues.
Monty first joined the gardening show in 2003 and is its longest-serving Head Gardener. Since then, he has inspired millions of gardening enthusiasts with his practical advice, passion for plants and glimpses into his Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow.
On Tuesday 8 September, Monty announced his departure in a statement, explaining that it was 'time for a change'.
'I began hosting Gardeners' World 23 years ago, and for the last 16 years we've been here at Longmeadow, and it's been fantastic. I've loved every minute, I've worked with some amazing people, and it's been a joy to share my gardening life and my dogs with you, but it's time for a change,' he wrote on Instagram.
