Peony season is fleeting but there's a quick and easy way to enjoy your beautiful blooms for longer – and it won't cosy you a penny.

Peonies flower from April to June, only lasting a few short weeks, but David Denyer, a flower expert at Eflorist, has shared an easy trick that will ultimately prolong its flowering time.

For David’s expert hack, all you need is warm water: 'To get your peonies to open up faster to enjoy them for longer, all you need is a clean vase and some warm water. Simply fill a vase with lukewarm water and grab your peonies. Flip the peony upside down so the petals are facing the floor, and gently dunk them into the vase of warm water.

'Feel free to give them a little twist in the water, to ensure the petals fully absorb the water. After this, pull them out gently and give them a little shake to get rid of any heavy water droplets.'

Then, simply pop the peonies back into your vase of fresh water, and in a couple of hours, they should start to open up.

'The trick here is that the warm water will expand the petals, leaving your peonies looking fuller for longer,' David reveals. 'However, it’s best to do this one by one to prevent any damage to the petals, so remember to be careful when dunking them in the water.'
