Bringing seasonal plants into your home is one of the easiest ways to give it a fresh summer update. Whether you want to recreate the feel of a Mediterranean holiday, fill your rooms with beautiful fragrance or introduce vibrant colour, the right plants can instantly transform your space.

1. Lemon trees

‘Lemon trees love the sun, being native to hotter climates in the Mediterranean,’ says Lucy, plant and floral lead at Bloom & Wild. ‘This plant is perfect for creating that feeling of being sat under a blue sky in Italy.’
To help it thrive, position your lemon tree in the brightest spot you have, such as a sunny conservatory or south-facing window, where it can soak up plenty of sunlight throughout the day.
2. Jasmine
Few plants capture the feeling of summer quite like jasmine. Its delicate white flowers release a beautiful fragrance that becomes even more noticeable on warm days.
‘Incorporating a Jasmine hoop into your home this summer is a great way to enjoy it at its best,’ Lucy says.
Display jasmine near an open window or doorway so its delicate perfume can drift through your home on warm summer days. Keep it in a bright spot with indirect light, ideally near a south- or west-facing window, but avoid placing it in a room that gets excessively hot.
3. Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas are a quintessential summer favourite, and while they're best known for brightening up the garden, they also make a beautiful indoor display thanks to their large, colourful blooms.
‘If you want a more coastal look in your home this summer, then blue hydrangeas are a great way to do so,’ says Lucy. ‘Their vibrant blues and soft purples will blossom more day by day, allowing you to enjoy watching as their colour emerges throughout the summer.’
Choose a compact potted variety and place it in a bright spot with indirect light, away from hot, dry draughts. For maximum impact, display it as a centrepiece on your dining table, or cut a few stems and arrange them in a vase to bring the cottage garden charm indoors.
