The Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2023 winner is Agapanthus Black Jack (‘Dwaghyb02’), a deep purple perennial perfect for a bold planting scheme within borders or in a container – its compact size makes it a great choice for smaller gardens.

In second place is Hydrangea serrata ‘Gotemba Nishiki’ (Euphoria Pink) and third place is Weigela Camouflage (‘Tmwg15-01’), the RHS has announced.

Created in 2010 to celebrate the work of breeders and nurseries in producing improved new plants for UK gardeners, the Chelsea Plant of the Year is decided from a shortlist of plants being launched by Great Pavilion exhibitors. Experts from RHS Plant Committees and Trials Forums then decide on the winner, as well as second and third place. Innovation, impact and likely public appeal is considered as part of the judging criteria.

Visitors to Chelsea Flower Show 2023 will be able to see all the plants on display in the Great Pavilion. Find out more about the Plant of the Year below.
