Great news for those of you who live in the Scottish capital because it turns out Edinburgh is officially the UK's best city to live and work.
It has just been named the winner in a new Royal Mail study on the United Kingdom's 'most attractive' cities, after coming out on top for a range of measures, including earnings and access to green space.
Edinburgh was closely followed by London, which scored highly on earnings and job opportunities, but lost out thanks to its high housing costs. Discussing Edinburgh's victory in a release, the city's council leader, Adam McVey, said: 'It is welcome news that Edinburgh is yet again receiving recognition as the UK's top city to live and work in.'
The survey looked at the UK's 10 most economically significant cities, as well as the capitals of Wales and Northern Ireland.
Each one was ranked on nine different categories – job opportunities, access to education, business community, access to green space, earnings, cultural services, healthcare, housing costs and office space affordability – and then given an average score.
Edinburgh wins on education and performs well when it comes to job opportunities, business community, earnings and access to green space. It also has the second highest number of start-ups, whilst office space costs are about half that of London. On top of this, the employment rate is strong and access to education takes first place.
The capital achieves strong scores on earnings, employment levels and good access to education, but housing affordability and office costs are the highest in the UK.
Bristol is the top ranking UK city for job opportunities, with plenty of start-ups and high average earnings, coupled with good access to healthcare.
Newcastle & Gateshead rank top for cultural services, while housing and office space are also affordable: the average home costs 5.4 times the average annual income. It also has a strong ratio of number of GPs to the size of the population.
Manchester has the second best access to green space out of the 12 cities, as well as a relatively strong business community, but it ranks low in terms of earnings.
Glasgow has plenty of green space, and rich cultural services, with plenty of theatres and libraries. Access to education is also strong.
Leeds has the best access to healthcare among the UK's most economically significant cities, and also scores well in terms of earnings and job opportunities.
The Welsh capital performs well in terms of business community with plenty of start-ups. It also scores highly on access to education, earnings, and affordability of office space.
With 32 per cent green urban or natural land, Sheffield has the third highest level of access to green space.
Liverpool was praised for its housing and office space affordability. At 4.5 times the average annual income, homes are much more affordable than in London where the ratio is 13.5!
The Northern Irish capital comes in second on the affordability measures for space and housing.
Birmingham scored well for affordable office space.
