Bradford has been crowned the best UK city for solo buyers, thanks to its affordable properties and low living costs.
If you're thinking of buying on your own but are stuck on where to choose, new research from Coulters Property is here to help. After analysing the most populated towns and cities across the UK, the team discovered which are the best for solo buyers — and which are the worst.
While Bradford scooped the top spot, Derby came second with the average price for a one-bedroom property coming in at £86,578. Meanwhile, Belfast (£99,480) took the third spot, while Glasgow (£102,993) and Aberdeen (£80,830) rounded off the top five.
On the other hand, London was voted the most expensive city for solo buyers, followed by the seaside city of Brighton and Hove. They might be filled with buzzy life and vibrant culture, but their sky-high prices make buying alone a challenge. In fact, the monthly mortgage costs and living expenses for a one-bedroom property in London equates to almost all of a person's average wage.
'Each of the three least affordable cities were located in the south of England,' say Coulters Property. 'Brighton had the highest house price and cost of living outside of London of the cities that we looked at, taking up just over three-quarters (76.7 per cent) of the average monthly income.'
