From luxe down to more eco-friendly fillings, we’ve found the cosiest duvets for this year.
Few things beat the feeling of snuggling up under a fluffy duvet after a long day. And while you could splash out on an electric blanket to keep your bed extra cosy this winter, you may want to check what type of duvet you have first.
If yours is 10.5 tog or above, it should provide good enough insulation to keep you warm when it's frosty out, while duvets below this are best kept for the balmier months.
Alternatively, you may have an all-season duvet, which comes in two parts so you can swap between the two or clip them together for a truly toasty night’s sleep. If you like the sound of that, we’ve found some top all-season duvets below.
The filling you plump for is mostly down to personal choice (and budget!). Traditional down is considered the most luxe but hollow fibre and microfibre duvets can be just as cosy, with some using recycled plastic bottles for a more eco-friendly offering.
We’ve also included hypoallergenic designs below too, and all the duvets on our list can be machine washed, although we’ve recommended sending some for a professional dry clean for best results.
Like with pillows and mattress toppers, we enlisted a panel of testers to try out each duvet for a few weeks. Each duvet was tested by four people, with a total of 82 sleeping beauties reporting back on warmth, noise and comfort levels.
Our expert tester also put the duvets through their paces, seeing what happened when they followed the manufacturers’ washing and drying instructions, looking out for changes in texture, quality and appearance.
Our winning warmer ticks all of our boxes – it’s made from recycled plastic bottles (yet it didn’t rustle at night!), it felt luxe to sleep under and it came out the washing machine looking sparkling. Its light, bouncy feel divided our testers, as some would have preferred a weightier feel, but overall it’s a top-performer.

This all-season duvet – made of a 4.5 and 8 tog duvet – is an investment but it delivers hotel-level comfort. The effective press studs meant that our testers didn’t notice that it was two duvets joined together, while its plump feel hugged testers’ bodies nicely at night. It washed well too, with only the corners left a tad flat.

While we found our double duvet was a few centimetres smaller than advertised, it was the only one we tested that didn’t shrink at all during our wash tests. It also dried speedily.
The bulky duvet didn’t have enough drape to hug our testers’ bodies but they did find it warming, breathable and comfortable to sleep with. It’s also endorsed by the British Allergy Foundation and contains some recycled fibres.

This comforting all-season duvet is a fluffy choice that’s filled with entirely recycled down and feathers. We’d have liked a few more buttons to join up the 4.5 and 9 tog sections, as they did bunch up while we slept. However, it packs up well if you’re only using one part, and one panellist told us it felt like the duvet was hugging them while they slept, making it a cosy bedroom addition.

Simba claims the manufacturing of this duvet is carbon neutral, working with ClimatePartner to offset its emissions through planting trees and protecting forests, and that’s not its only eco-cred; the filling is made from recycled plastic bottles.
It’s also designed to regulate your body temperature – which is why it doesn’t have a traditional tog rating – and our testers appreciated its luxe feel. Although it didn’t quite have that body-hugging depth some were looking for when cold, everyone appreciated how breathable it was.

Still not turned the heating on? Here’s a duvet with some serious warmth. One tester likened it to sleeping on a cloud, but for others the amount of filling was a bit too much, requiring regular flattening. It performed admirably in our wash tests though and squished down and stored away easily when not in use.

Extra warmth doesn’t have to set you back much – for just £15 this duvet will keep the chill out of your bed, with our panel describing it as 'perfect’ for winter weather.
It washed well and dried quickly too, with only slight shrinkage. And while its basic design and untidy stitching may not look luxe, its well-distributed, soft filling got the thumbs up from our testers.

Bamboo is a more sustainable material than most, but it’s also got a host of other qualities that make it the stuff bedding dreams are made of – it’s naturally temperature regulating, moisture wicking and hypoallergenic. This particular bamboo duvet was also snuggly to sleep with while testers said its outer fabric was silky-soft.
Take care when washing though, as we found it took a long time to dry and noticed some filling shrinkage. The lighter tog rating means it’s not the warmest here either. But for an all-season, eco design, it impressed.

This duvet is designed to feel like the luxury of feathers but it’s made using recycled fibres instead. We found it washed well, maintaining its quality with only a two-gram decrease in weight, and its lightweight feel meant those who run hot at night didn’t overheat. At 10.5 tog, it’s not the warmest but would make a great duvet for the transitional months.

A bit like bamboo, wool is a good choice for bedding – it’s mould, mildew and dust mite resistant and naturally hypoallergenic. The wool in this duvet is also sourced entirely in the UK and its weight (500gsm) is the equivalent to an 11 to 14 tog duvet.
How did it perform? Well, testers enjoyed cosy and quiet nights wrapped up in it and it washed well.
