Jay Blades is to present a brand new six-part series, Jay's Workshop, which will celebrate the joy of making along with the pleasure of giving.

Coming to BBC Two and from the makers of The Repair Shop, each hour-long programme will see presenter Jay and a group of volunteers build beautiful furniture – from chairs to cabinets to cocktail bars – for deserving local people, in a workshop set within the heart of a community.

Jay and his team will lovingly create each bespoke piece from scratch, before revealing the surprise to the deserving recipient.

'So many people up and down the country have given back to their communities, now it’s time for my community workshop to give back to them,' says furniture restorer and DIY expert Jay, who knows from experience that the sheer joy of making something with your hands can have a transformative effect on confidence and happiness.

Now Jay wants to bring that experience to his workshop volunteers, who each have their own personal motivation for joining the team.

Patrick Holland, Controller at BBC Two, comments: 'Jay is a special talent and I’m delighted that he’ll be opening the doors of his new workshop on BBC Two. It promises to be filled with great craft skills, beautiful objects and amazing community stories.'

Aside from presenting The Repair Shop, Jay recently fronted BBC One's spin-off, Jay Blades' Home Fix. Aided by a rich catalogue of BBC home and garden archive, the programme was designed to inspire viewers to learn new skills for lockdown and beyond, thus helping them to become self-sufficient in their own homes.

Now, Jay is currently fronting Jay and Dom's Home Fix along with his Repair Shop co-star, Dom Chinea, where the duo are offering DIY tips and tricks that won't break the bank.

Jay's autobiography, Making It: How Love, Kindness and Community Helped Me Repair My Life, is out in May 2021.
