Lofty rooms with white walls are the perfect canvas for an artistic couple
Artist Beverley Rouwen and her partner, ceramicist Douglas Reeve, work from their Victorian brick barn in the picturesque Bride Valley in Dorset, surrounded by the lush green countryside. Their studio is located at one end of the property, which spreads out over one floor, with rooms filled with the couple's work, like an open gallery.
The studio and a little guest bedroom are located in an L-shape at the far end of the barn.
White walls and huge ceilings with oak trusses give a real sense of height and space, perfect for displaying Beverley's large canvases and artwork.
Other than painting the cabinets a bold black, Beverley has kept the inherited kitchen as it was. The exposed brick chimney breast makes a striking eye-catching feature and houses the Aga.
The modern coffee table came from Heal's many years ago — its metal frame complementing the art, as do the lively designs and colours of cushions by French artist Nathalie Du Pasquier on the mid 20th-century Danish sofa.
In the large, double-height dining room, Eames chairs flank a long wooden table. Holding the eye in every room, Beverley's artwork is themed around how man has shaped the landscape in this series about hop gardens.
Treescapes in her characteristically reduced and linear graphic style form a group beside the table.
Beverley and Douglas have displayed their own work throughout their home in contemporary settings and sparsely furnished rooms. White ceramic vases are shown to bold effect in a simple metal-framed cabinet while a line drawing hangs overhead.
