Designer Isabel Ladd does not do quiet. As a self-proclaimed maximalist and a lover of what she deems “designer camo”—layering a dizzying variety of prints over each other—she set out to turn a previously bland space into a color-rich, tropical escape for this year's Whole Home. This two-room suite features a primary bedroom with an attached bath and walk-in closet, along with a cozy den—but it’s packed with enough personality for the entire house.

Wallpaper illustrated with exotic birds, bamboo, and an abundance of florals provided a playful backdrop for Ladd to build on: “The whole aesthetic is ‘more is more; less is a bore,’” she explains. Ladd trimmed a navy-and-cream diamond rug with a leaf-patterned fabric, outfitted the bed with a floral slipcover and checked bedding, brought in yellow ikat curtains, and used wicker furnishings to balance it all. “It’s hoarder chic,” she says.

Pink and red can get a little preppy. The olive trim adds a touch of weird, which I love.

Incorporating wood and wicker pieces into this maximalist space helps ground the energy and bring a sense of calm.
Ladd commissioned artist Eva O’Donovan to paint her portrait atop a floral Morris & Co. fabric design originally created in 1877.

Always one to insert personal touches wherever she can, Ladd commissioned a tiger mural for the ceiling, because, why not?
