Behr just unveiled its 2027 Color of the Year—just in time for fall home projects. The newly chosen hue, Grounded (T27-01), is a mossy green that makes us long for the outdoors. Thanks to its subtle brown undertones, the shade effortlessly complements the classic autumnal palette of burnt oranges, golden yellows, and rust reds.

This pick marks the 10th anniversary of Behr’s Color of the Year Awards and reflects a widespread longing for a deeper connection with nature.

Behr’s Color of the Year 2027: Grounded

“Color starts with observation. We pay attention to how color is shifting across fashion, furniture, materials, and decor, and we spend time in global design markets experiencing those changes firsthand,” says Kayla Kratz, head of color at Behr. “Grounded came from that kind of observation. Nature is an important part of that conversation because it shows us how colors live together.”

According to data shared with House Beautiful, 77 percent of Americans are finding much of daily life overwhelming and chaotic. Nature is a common solace for many, offering reprieve from the noise of social media, the stress of work, and the ever-churning news cycle. Similarly, four out of five respondents say home projects help them feel more grounded—pun intended. Judging by this, Grounded is the ideal choice for Behr’s 2027 Color of the Year, as it beautifully brings the outdoors in.

As 2026 winds down and more brands announce their Color of the Year picks, it will be interesting to see which ones are following the current hype cycle versus meeting homedwellers where they are now. Behr’s approach is a distinct blend of both approaches.

“What makes our perspective distinctive is how closely we can connect what’s emerging with what’s actually resonating at home. Then our job is to turn those signals into a very specific color,” says Kratz.

“With Grounded, we worked through dozens of formulations with our Behr Color Lab team to find the right balance. Grounded is the result of that whole process: what people want from home, where design is heading, and the precision to bring those signals together in one shade. After 10 years, that’s what our process has taught us to recognize—not simply what’s next, but what will matter in the way we live.”
